Part I Change identification - Proposal

Title: Big Trees Falling (By Excavator)

Description of Change:

Reference Method statement for site preparation and earth work. (TZ-TAN-90-DBO1-
30039_01_AFC_20221030) Item, 9.2 Vegetation clearance and Trees cutting. For item 9.2 Tree cutting work.

 Tree higher than 5m with many trunks found unstable due to excavation performed around
need to be throw down with excavator. Trunks to be cut with chainsaw are at heights and
without safe access.

Tree falling by Excavator

 In case that some big trees with higher than 5 m, but there is a sticky wood or have many
trunks in one tree (Figure 1), safe felling process will be:
 Before conducting cutting work, barricade the area with safety tape and signage (area shall
be > the estimate height of the tree).
 Assess Tree Center of Gravity (CoG) to anticipate falling direction.
 Excavate the soil one side of the trunk area (on falling side) until the roots appear and cut off
all roots. (Figure 2)
 Use the excavator bucket to push the tree down in the specified direction.
 After falling, cut the trunk and branches with chainsaws.

Justification of Change:

For item 9.2 Tree cutting work, which MS specify allow to cutting if the diameter of the trees shall be between
100mm and 600mm with a maximum height of 5 meters. But in the MST area, some trees higher than 5 m.
and some trees have many trunks in one tree which makes it difficult to cut.
