Filipinos is known to be friendly or what we call as “pakikisama” in

bisaya. A trait wherein there is unity, camaderie, and friendship among
the people in the community.

According to the reading article, “pakikisama” refers to an

interpersonal relationship wherein people are friendly. Pakikisama trait
comes from the word sama, which means to go along. It is expressed
in their private lives, public workplaces, and relationships with
neighbors. “Pakikisama” as it is observed in the contexts of youth,
workers, and national development. “Pakikisama” is significant because
it forms the moral life of being a Filipino in such a way that it creates
friendship among youths regardless of the status. “Pakikisama” also
builds good rapport among Filipino workers. The “utang na loob” as our
way of concern and care for the welfare of the community. Aside from
that, “pakikisama” bring about the positive outcome which is bayanihan
or team spirit. “Pakikisama” concerns the person’s enhancement and
the community he or she lives in. It leads Filipinos to live a peaceful
community and meaningful way of life. This trait is very vital and helpful
to me as I soon embark on my future job as a nurse. Being a nurse it
requires a good foundation of “pakikisama” since it deals with a lot of
people with the aid of caring and treating them. As a future nurse, I will
apply and live this trait by building rapport and good relationship in
every people specifically patients that I will be encountering. I will be
an instrument in uplifting the lives of the less privileged. I will help and
speak for the truth as long as it is right towards something of greater
value for the survival and development of humanity.
Culture plays an important role in Filipinos life. Not just by the
fact that it drives and lead the people to their way of life but also the
key to one’s identity. As mentioned above, being a nurse is a noble job
and with this trait of “pakikisama”, I can really say that my future job
as a nurse will be as meaningful and worthy as it can be.
