In the Netherlands, prostitution was legalized on October 1, 2000, to recognize sex as work. But there are a few
problems such as illegal immigrants’ shady prostitution, underage prostitution, and lack of vocational education.
Service providers do not have enough information and accurate awareness of what they are doing. This can lead
to mental problem.
Germany legalized prostitution in 1927. However, prostitution was regarded as an invalid and unacceptable
contract leaving sex workers exposed to exploitation and repression. For instance, prostitution workers were
required to undergo regular medical checkups. Also, since Germany empowered local governments to prohibit sex
trade in certain regions or at certain times, prostitute could not have the same status as other occupations. But
after a revision of law in 2001, Germany eliminated the practice of interpreting sex work as unethical as they
started to recognize it as legal protected profession. Now sex works can for a labor union and there are no more
mandatory health checkups. Individuals can employ prostitutes, but it is only possible to the extent that it does
not harm the individual and economic independence of workers.
We can expect a few effects through legalizing prostitution. First, by building safe and robust system like blood
management services the state can protect sex workers, ultimately, society. Second, there will be more freedom of
occupation choice. Third, the state can provide a secure environment for both service providers and clients. And
we are expecting the reduction of two kinds of crimes. First one is mafia, gang, pimp-related crime. Since these
three are often deeply related to prostitution activities, legalizing prostitution is expected to reduce related crimes.
Also, since fulfilling the needs of sexually rejected people get easier, sex crime will decrease too. Sex education
will be operated in more active and open atmosphere, and there will be the rise of social status of sex workers.

Germany legalized prostitution in 1927. However, prostitution was regarded as an invalid and
unacceptable contract leaving sex workers exposed to exploitation and repression. For
instance, prostitution workers were required to undergo regular medical checkups in a coercive
and untidy system.
Also, since Germany empowered local governments to prohibit sex trade in certain regions or

Now, let us summarize. We can expect a few effects through legalizing prostitution. First, by

the state can provide a secure environment for both service providers and clients. And we are
expecting the reduction of two kinds of crimes. The first one is mafia, gang, and pimp-related
crime. Since these three are often deeply and directly related to prostitution activities,
legalized, and organized prostitution systems can reduce related crimes. Also, since it will be
easier for sexually rejected people to fulfill their sexual needs, sex crime will decrease too. Sex
education will be operated more actively in an open atmosphere, and there will be a rise in
the social status of sex workers. Finally, it can be discussed at various levels such as public
opinion and parliament.
These are our references. Problems have ALWAYS arisen COVERTLY even in illegal conditions.
Why not LEGALIZE and REGULATE to PROVIDE SAFER ENVIRONMENT for both buyers and
sellers? Thank you for listening.
Type this assignment directly into the text box provided in the assignment (DO NOT upload PDFs
or Doc files).
In this assignment, you will "critique"** another group's presentation (not your own group's
presentation!).
Recommended format: 20% summary; 60% analysis of the group's presentation (strong points,
weak points, points on which you agree or disagree with the group's reasoning/logic, etc.); 20%
conclusion and suggestions of how it could have been better.
Again, you are free to leave it until really late, but I suggest that you start it early and get it done
early, because a second assignment will be assigned around the beginning to middle of November.
Any *one* of the first 7 presentations for this class can be chosen (as long as it is not your group!).
Grading:
1) Summary of presentation is accurate and succinct, capturing the main points of the presentation
25%
2) Critique draws on class material or other material to identify weak and/or strong points 30%
3) Critique demonstrates that the writer understood the group's presentation 10%
4) Grammar, spelling, formatting, etc. 20%
5) Has a good title, introduction, and conclusion to make the critique paper interesting to read 15%

I will make critique the presentation on dictatorship. They supported dictatorship mainly
based on economic growth. During Park Chung-hee's dictatorship, he raised the level of
Korea's economy, which had lagged far since the Korean War, through the Saemaul
Movement and export-led industrialization called the miracle of the Han river. They also
argued that German pharmaceutical technology had developed remarkably compared to
other countries due to the human experiment of Adolf Hitler's regime.
In response to their announcement, I would say 'too simply defined a causal relationship.'
Of course, I agree that Korea has grown significantly through Park Chung-hee's wise policy.
It is also somewhat agreeable that human experiments have contributed to the growth of
pharmaceutical technologies. However, it is not enough to say that 'dictatorship' is good.
Even if these were done in a democracy, they could have had equally good results.
Many conservatives argue that dictatorship is inevitable. For example, Walter Galenson, an
economics professor at Cornell University, said that the more democratic the government is,
the more likely it is that resources will shift from investment to consumption. Samuel
Huntington said that political participation should be temporarily curbed for economic
development. But according to Adam Przeworsky's research, there is no difference in
investment rates between dictatorship and democracy, and there is no difference in
economic growth. The theory of the inevitability of dictatorship seems too one-dimensional
consequentialism.
It did not fit my thinking, but the presentation was good. The best part was that the position
was clear, and they stuck to it despite many questions. I was especially impressed by the
woman who dyed her hair. Her voice was moderately loud and confident, and she had the
power to hold the audience.
To make a few suggestions, first, I wish there were grounds for a clear correlation between
'dictatorship' and 'state prosperity.'
For example, it is difficult to think that dictatorship and economic growth have a direct
causal relationship with the original data alone. I believe other factors like 'the catching-up
effect' would have been more influential. Second, I want a more detailed graph, not a graph
of total GDP growth. Since GDP consists of consumption, investment, government
purchases, and net exports, it would have been easier to see how it grew using a more
detailed indicator
They chose a very controversial topic but made a good presentation. Also, they gave me a
chance to rethink dictatorship.
