TITLE Beam No. FFB1 (64) SHEET

1. Sectional properties:
Width of section b = 200 mm
Overall depth D = 300 mm
Minimum cover = 30 mm
Effective cover d' = Clear Cover + (Φ/2) + Stiruup dia. = 44 mm
Effective depth d = D - d' = 256 mm

2. Material properties:
Compressive strength of concrete fck = 20 Mpa
Yield strength of steel of steel fy = 500 Mpa

3. Analysis results:
Ultimate span moment M (bottom) = 15.43 kNm
Ultimate moment M at end support (Top) = 17.81 kNm
Ultimate shear force V = 23.48 kN

3.1 Redistribution of moments:

Redistribution should not be considered as critical moments are in seismic load combinations.

4. Check for Depth:

Kumax = 0.46
Rumax = 0.36fck.kumax(1-0.42kumax) = 2.67
Murmax = Rumaxbd^2 = 35.02 kNm
Murmax > Mu
Therefore, provided depth is adequate.
5. Main Steel Calculations:
Assume bar diameter = 12 mm
Cross-sectional area of 12mm bar = ast = 113.10 Sq.mm
Assume bar diameter = 16 mm
Cross-sectional area of 16mm bar = ast = 201.06 Sq.mm
Minimum steel % (Cl.26.5.1.1 of IS456:2000) = (0.85/fy) x 100 = 0.17 %
Steel along span (bottom):
Ast required = (0.5fck/fy)[1-√(1-4.6M/fckbd^2)]bd = 149.53 Sq.mm
No. of 12 mm bars provided N12 = Ast/ast = 3 Nos.
No. of 16 mm bars provided N16 = Ast/ast = 0 Nos.
Spacing = (Width of section - 2.Effective cover)/(N-1)
Spacing of bars in 1st layer = 56 mm c/c
pt% = 100Ast/bd = 0.66 ≥ Astmin = 0.17 %
Referring table 19 of IS456:2000,
Design shear stress τc (by interpolation) = 0.53 Mpa
Ast Provided = 339.29 Sq.mm

Steel along end support (top):

Ast required = 175.0 Sq.mm
No. of 12 mm bars provided N12 = Ast/ast = 3 Nos.
No. of 16 mm bars provided N16 = Ast/ast = 0 Nos.
Spacing = (Width of section - 2.Effective cover)/(N-1)
Spacing of bars in 1st layer = 56 mm c/c
pt% = 100Ast/bd = 0.66 ≥ Astmin = 0.17 %
Referring table 19 of IS456:2000,
Design shear stress τc (by interpolation) = 0.53 Mpa
Nominal shear stress τv = V/bD = 0.39 MPa
Ast Provided = 339.29 Sq.mm
7. Shear Reinforcement:
Condition 1:
If τv < τc, shear reinforcement is not required.
Condition 2:
If (τc + 0.4) > τv > τc,
Minimum shear reinforcement is provided.
Shear resistance by minimum stirrups = 0.4 MPa
Therefore, total shear resistance by providing
minimum shear reinforcement = 0.53 + 0.4 = 0.93 MPa
Spacing = 0.87fy.Asv/0.4b
Condition 3:
If τv > ( τc + 0.4),
Design shear reinforcement is required.
Spacing = (0.87fy.Asv.d)/(SF - τc.bd)
In this condition, τv < τc
Hence, shear reinforcement is not required.
Diameter of stirrup (External) = 8 mm
No. of stirrup legs = 2 Nos.
Spacing of stirrups required = Nil mm
Provided spacing of stirrups = 150.00 mm
