This movie is an inspiration for people from all walks of life to learn how to
stay patient and survive even the harshest challenges of life. All you need
is to get your act together and keep going without succumbing to
pessimism or negativity. A true story based on the life of Chris Gardener,
this movie is a must-watch for HR professionals. It shows how a positive
attitude and passion are the key traits that any individual, be it an employee
or a manager, must possess to succeed in their respective fields.
The Pursuit of Happyness' Tells Real-Life Rags to Riches Story of
Successful Businessman Chris Gardner. Will Smith stars in an uplifting
drama based on the true story of a single father who went from homeless
to successful businessman. The Pursuit of Happyness tells the story of a
salesman who invested his life savings on bone density scanners that
didn’t break the market like he thought they would. He spent the rest of his
life training his 4-year-old son and career with no house, unpaid income
taxes, an unpaid internship, and relentless efforts. In this movie, you learn
persistence and commitment. You also get to see how standing out and
being innovative gets you far. This film also emphasizes the importance of
landing a job and financial stability.
After watching the movie explore the following major learning areas?
1. Why is "happiness" spelled wrong in the title? Which statement best expresses
the theme of the pursuit of happiness? What is the theme of this movie? What
Two important values to Chris were found in this? Explain in detail?
ANS 1: The word "happy" is misspelled in the title on purpose, exactly as it was on the wall of a
day care center where Gardner once sought care for his small son, Chris Jr., on some of his
worst days." Chris (Will Smith) even informs the Chinese caregiver that the painting adorning his
son's daycare is misspelt. Chris wanted to make sure that his son was taught properly so that
he might grow up to be a well-educated guy capable of accomplishing great things. Chris grew
annoyed when he noticed that the word happiness was printed incorrectly on the wall. However,
the phrase comes to represent Chris' personal quest for happiness.
Christopher Gardner, a millionaire, is the subject of the film The Pursuit of Happiness. This film
depicts Chris Gardner's hardships in striving to make a better life for himself and his son. This
film has several themes, including survival, determination, and never giving up on your
aspirations.
The statement best expresses the theme of the pursuit of happiness is -America is a land of
opportunity and hope. America is a place where living is easy. America is a place of great
hardship- where as
two important values to Chris were, his love for his son, and his determination, never giving up
even though he was down on his luck.
2. What major Things Entrepreneurs Can Learn from The Pursuit of Happyness
and summarize or seven entrepreneurial lessons to take away from this movie?
ANS 2:The film is so inspirational in many ways, but for any aspiring entrepreneurs who’ve seen
the film there’s many things that can be learnt from Chris’ story.
Survival, determination, and never giving up on your aspirations are the primary themes of this
film. One of the primary themes in the film is perseverance. Determination is the belief that you
can achieve everything you want if you put in enough work and do not give up, especially when
things are difficult.
If we had to summarize seven entrepreneurial lessons to take away from this movie, it would
surely be the following ones –
3 .Explain the statements "You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People who can't
do something themselves will tell you that you can't do it &“The world is your
oyster, it’s up to you to find the pearls.” ?
ANS 3. Chris Gardner's on-screen son (also Will Smith's off-screen son) takes a picture of basketball and
shouts "turn professional" with the enthusiasm of a five-year-old boy. His father is wise and begins to take
him to the earth. That's not true. I don't want you to shoot this ball day or night. Seeing how disappointed
his son is, he changes his tone. Like him, I truly think we really want to have faith in ourselves to allow
ourselves each opportunity of building a truly aggressive undertaking. At the point when you need to get
some place, it is fundamental not to pay attention to doomsayers and guidance providers who discourage
you while professing to need what is best for you. At the point when we try to outperform our cutoff
points, similar to this child who needs to turn into an expert basketballer, we unavoidably bring about the
dissatisfaction with regards to every one of the people who have never set out to outperform theirs. It is
then basic to battle against the predominant tide of cynicism and not to permit ourselves to be
overpowered by the harmful remarks. By "ensuring our fantasy", we give ourselves the resources to make
it exist in full, while staying zeroed in on our objective
You are in a position to take the opportunities that life has to offer.
the world turns into a clam for, not just individuals see the excellence of the pearl inside yet in
addition use it for business gain/individual benefit. Anything is possible for you" is that anything
you wish is yours for the taking. This recommendation, typically given to youths, proposes that
their future holds extraordinary wealth, the manner in which a shellfish contains a pearl, and
everything they need to do is use training, ability, or one more ability to get into the figurative
bivalve and guarantee their award.
4. The movie is full of different life lessons, what lessons of the Leadership
Takeaways you have found in the story?
ANS 4. The biggest lesson to take away from the inspirational movie The Pursuit of Happyness
can be summarised in one word: Grit!
In actuality, fruitful individuals can envision their victories and make up their minds concerning
what they need, paying little mind to whatever obstructions they need to confront on the way. It's
the principle motivation behind why they succeed and become effective pioneers. The vast
majority come up short on that kind of conviction, which drives them to average quality.
So what do you do when difficult work doesn't pay off? Work is brilliant. For that, you need to
utilize your center abilities. Gardner was a brilliant man who had a genuine present for numbers.
Furthermore it is solely after he began putting his center abilities to utilize and did something
different than attempting to persuade individuals to purchase his item, that outcomes began
appearing..
5. This movie has given you a lot of motivation and courage to face difficulties
and get over bad days. How you will list just five hard tasks and if you were in
the position of Chirs Gardner then how would you cope with it ?
(1) Social conflict between Chris and his wife, Linda. It was caused by financial problems
Sol: In Chris Gardner’s Place, Would have tried to give financial insurance and security
(2) Social conflict between Chris Gardner and the cabbie. It was because Chris did not pay the
taxi fare
(3) Social conflict between Chris Gardner and cops. It was because Chris can not pay traffic
ticket letter,
Sol: Would have told him about the financial difficulties going through
(4) Social conflict between Chris Gardner and Charlie. It was because Chris could not pay the
apartment rent
(5) Social conflict between Chris Gardner and the driver who hits him. It was because Chris was
sprinting across San Fransisco streets, and the effect, he lost his shoe. So, in a competitive
internship at Dean Witter Chris just wear one shoe,
(6) Social conflict between Chris Gardner and Wayne. It was because Wayne does not want to
pay his owes to Chris, and the effect, make Chris and his son have to be homeless because
there is no money at all.
6.In this movie there are 4 Scenes That Continue To Inspire You Even Today?
Narrate these scene’s context and give your own analytical perspectives. Why are
these the best line of not only movie but you look it as leadership take away?
7. Scene #1 —we need to ask ourselves — “Why can't our lives be better?”
8. Scene #2 — we need to prove ourselves! ...
9. Scene #3 — we can't get bogged down by difficulties! ...
10. Scene #4 – Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something.
ANS:
7) Let's jump right into the action. On his way to his regular sales appointments, he notices a
man arriving in a flashy sports car. "I only have two questions for you," Chris says. "Can you tell
me what you do and how you do it?" "I'm a stock broker," the man says. "Do you have to go to
college to be a stock broker?" Chris inquires. "Not necessarily," says the man. It's just a matter
of being good with numbers and people."
"They all look so damn happy to me," Chris thinks as the man walks away to his office, leaving
Chris amidst a sea of smiling stock brokers. "Why couldn't I have that look?"
This is coming from someone who has never attended college! And we, who have all of life's
needs (as well as some pleasures), are often content with as little as a Facebook like,we must
not compromise our aims over hardships
8) Chris is with the Resource Head of Dean Witter, a stock brokerage firm, in this scene. Chris
had spotted a leaflet promoting the firm's internship programme, which would allow him to work
as a stock broker. He knew his application would be ignored, so he set out to personally
persuade the man of his abilities. They're in a cab, and Chris is droning on about how he can
deal with difficult situations, but the man is too preoccupied in solving the Rubik's Cube (as seen
in the photo) to pay attention to Chris.
Chris declares that he is capable of solving the problem. The man clearly isn't convinced, but he
still gives it to him. Chris is mocked by the cab driver as well. Chris, on the other hand, slowly
gets going and solves the riddle by the time the man arrives at his destination. This makes a
favorable impression on the Dean Witter representative. In this age, where we don’t have the
handicap of not having a college degree, we have stiff competition making it more important for
us to prove ourselves.
9) Actually, we need to know what happened earlier in order to understand why Chris was
dressed this way. Chris' wife had left him the night before this interview, frustrated by their
financial issues. Add in the fact that Chris' landlord had threatened to evict him but had agreed
to let him stay for another week provided he painted the house, which he was doing when the
cops arrived at his door and arrested him for failing to pay many parking tickets.
The next morning, he was released. And then he dashed to the office for his interview. This is
where things get more intriguing. "Can I say something?" he asks the interviewers. If you ask
me a question and I don't know the answer, I'm the type of person who will tell you that I don't
know. But you can bet I know how to do it.
10) Chris takes his son to play basketball on a Saturday. His son is engrossed in the game
and, despite his diminutive size, manages to put the ball in the basket. Chris attempts but fails
to do the same. He then informs his kid that there will be areas in which he excels, but that
basketball is not one of them, and that he should not waste his time with the ball. He goes on to
say that he was just average at the game and that the boy couldn't possibly be better than his
father. His son is dissatisfied and begins packing the ball when he hears this. Chris sees his
error and says the following lines, which comprise the film's heart and soul:
"Never allow somebody to tell you that you can't do something. Even I am not one of them. You
have a dream, and you must guard it. People are unable to.
