1. A plan drawing is a drawing on a horizontal plane showing a view from above.

It is like we had sliced

the building horizontally and we stand looking down from above. This will serve as a way on how people
will move through the space.

2. A section drawing is a drawing which presents the view of a building’s structure that looks like it had
been cut and sliced in half along an imaginary plane. A section is drawn from a vertical plane slicing
through a building. This can be useful as it gives a view through the spaces and surrounding structures
that can reveal the relationships between the different parts of the buildings that might not be apparent
on plan drawings.

3. An elevation is drawn from a vertical plane looking straight on to a building facade or interior surface.
This is as if you directly in front of a building and looked straight at it. It is the view of a building that is
seen from one side.

1. Drawing sectional views is important as it shows us the interior view of an object or a building. This is
very important to let the builders of your building understand the features more clearly. To sum up, it is
a need to draw sectional views to avoid confusion and to be very clear on the details and features of the
building.

2. We can draw cross and longitudinal sections by drawing a cutting plane line from the floor plan first.
We project the lines from the floor plan to the sectional drawing to maintain the correct dimensions,
measurement and size of the building. Then we visualize how it looks if we had cut down the building
where the cutting plane line is facing. Finally, we now draw the details and features of the interior view
of the building, horizontally for cross-sections and vertically for longitudinal sections.

After drawing the cutting plane line on the floor plan, project the lines from the floor plan to the
longitudinal section drawing. Then we visualize how the view where the cutting plane line is facing looks
like if it has been vertically cut in half. Then draw every feature of the building from the exterior walls to
the interior details accurately. Then the result will be the longitudinal section of the building.

The significance of longitudinal section in the building plan is that these drawings help in better
understanding as it gives more clarity to hidden details and features of the building. If it is easy to
understand then there will be little to no confusion to the people viewing your drawing, especially to the
builders of the building. Just like cross-sections, longitudinal section drawings are a must to buildings
with much more complexity. I am sure that the reason why is self-explanatory.
