A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4

I. Objectives
At the end of this lessons, students are expected to:
a. Describe materials based on the ability to absorb water.
b. Classify materials based on the ability to absorb water.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Materials that Absorb Water
B. Materials: Power point presentation,3 pcs. of; medium rubber balls, cotton balls,
sponge, face towel, t-shirt, rug, tissue paper, top water, tray, clock or timer, dropper
or dipper.
C. References/Sources: grade 4 science book page 2-4.

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. PRELIMINARIES “Classmates let us pray on the name of the father and of
 PRAYER the son and the holy spirit.”
“Okay class let us pray”
One pupil will lead the prayer

 GREETINGS “Good morning, ma’am!’

Good morning, Student, you may have a set.

 CHEECKING THE ATTENDANCE

“Now class raise your right hand and say present if your “okay ma’am”
name is called.

 REVIEW

Okay class, before we start to our next discussion, what

are last lesson that we discuss?
“About matter ma’am”

Yes, verry good!

Last meeting, we discussed about matter.

When we say matter, it is? Matter is anything that has weight and takes up space.
Everything you can see and touch is made up of matter.
Matter exists in three main forms: solids, liquids, and
gases.
Okay, Verry good!

Class, I have here an activity about last meeting that we

have discussed.
“(Students expected answer)
Direction: Give at least five (5) examples of solid, liquids,
and gases. Examples of Liquids

Examples of Liquids 6. Water

B. MOTIVATION
So, class I have here a different picture and you been
going to circle if the pictures can absorb water.

 Spon
ge,
tissue and handkerchief
C. PRESENTATION
Tap water ma’am.
Now class what is this?

Now class I have a cotton balls and dropper. I put cotton The cotton balls are absorbing water ma’am.
balls on tap of water what will happen to the water?

Okay very good

Now if I put a dropper of tap of water what will happen to The water stock inside the dropper ma’am.
the water?

Very good

What differences can you see in our presentation? The cotton balls absorbing water and dropper stocking
water ma’am.
Very good
The cotton balls have holes and the dropper are not having
What else? holes that’s why he cannot absorb water ma’am.

Very good they have different result if we put it to water

We think it’s all about absorb and not absorb things ma’am.
Now class what do you think is our topic for today?
It’s all about things that absorb water ma’am.
Yes,

What else? We ma’am

Very good Yes ma’am

Class today we will discuss about materials that absorb

water.

Who want to learn?

So must always listen

D. DISCUSSION “Pupils are reading”

Class when we say absorb- to take in (something, such as
a liquid) in a natural or gradual way. There are two
materials to absorb water the porous and the non-porous
materials. When we say porous it is a material having small
holes that allow air or liquid to pass through. And when we
say non-porous means materials that do not allow air or
liquid to pass through. Sponge, face towel, tissue, cotton balls and paper.

There are some materials/things that we can called as

“Children are reading”
porous materials like;
Plastic bottles, pail, basin, tab, container and etc.
Sponge, face towel, tissue, cotton balls and paper
.
Please read.

Sponge, face towel, tissue, cotton balls and paper.

And also, there are some materials/things that we can

called as non-porous materials like:

Plastic bottles, pail, basin, tab, container and etc.

Please read

Very good

Class you must remember these;

There are different materials in our environment that can be

Ma’am cotton is an example of porous, because it can
classified according to their properties. They can be
classified based on their ability to absorb water. Some absorb water.
material can absorb water more than others.

The cotton did you think it’s porous or non-porous?

Ma’am it’s an example of non-porous, because plastic
does not allow water to pass through.
Yes, Verry Good! Cotton is very porous, which makes it a
natural absorber of water.

What about the plastic?

Yes, Verry Good! Plastic is a non-porous material, does not Materials having small holes that allow air or liquid to pass
allow water to pass through. through

Again, class when we say porous materials it is?

Ma’am non-porous materials that do not allow air or liquid

to pass through.
Okay Verry Good! Porous materials are materials having
small holes that allow air or liquid to pass through.
What about the non-porous?
Yes, ma’am

Yes, Very Good! We learn about materials that absorb water ma’am.

Did you learn something?

Okay what did you learn?

Very good.

dry the table at once. What are you going to use? 5. D
a. Cotton
b. Rug made of cloth
c. Handkerchief
d. Tissue paper
2. Why do some materials absorb water?
a. Because some of materials have
tiny holes that let the water in
b. Some materials are soft that can
easily get water in
c. Some materials are expensive
d. Some of materials are made of
vinyl
3. Materials that do not absorbed water?
a. Porous materials
b. Hard materials
c. Non-porous materials
d. Unique materials
4. Materials that absorbed water are called?

IV. Assessment
Direction: Write true if the statement is true and write false if the statement is false.
1. Did all materials absorb water?
2.Porous means having small holes that allow air or liquid to pass through.
3. non-porous means materials that do not allow air or liquid to pass through.
4. Absorb means to take in (something, such as a liquid) in a natural or gradual way.
5. non-porous means having small holes that allow air or liquid to pass through.
