In recent years, the structure of a family and the role of its members are gradually

changing. What kinds of changes can occur? Do you think these changes are
positive or negative?
There has been a significant shift in family structure as well as the role of husbands and wife in
the last few decades. This essay will elaborate on several discernible changes of a present
family and in my opinion, such trend is a positive tendency.
To commence with, there are two predominant differences associated with the structure of a
family and its members’ role. Firstly, it is conspicuous that extended families are experiencing a
transformation into nuclear ones with multitude generations are dwindling. The trend is a
ramification of the fact that people these days are liable to relocate to a metropolis for working
and even accommodate there, leaving their members behind in hometowns. This is a
ubiquitous phenomenon all over the globe. In terms of the change in the role of a family’s
members, an exchange of duty between men and women is noticeable. Thanks to the
considerable progress of gender equality movements, males are no longer determined to be
the breadwinner, and females are not supposed to be the housewife, who is responsible for the
cooking, and household chores. Instead, both roles of which are now replaceable.
Such innovations, from my perspective, are advantageous. My standpoint is attributed to two
rationales. The minimization of generations in a family indubitably will bring about a sense of
freedom. With more allotment for space and privacy, members in that family can perform their
favorable tasks or concentrate on work and avert disturbances simultaneously. In addition, I
concede that the exchange between spouses’ roles can greatly contribute to the reduction of
household and financial burden. People’s rising acceptance in gender equality has enabled
women to provide their families with another source of income, while men and his kids can also
partake in the housework with a view to alleviating pressure on both as well as improving the
family’s background and stability.
To summarize, it is my firm belief that the shift in the structure of a family and the division of its
members is a positive trend.
