prayer)
Thank you (name of a student)!

Good morning, class!

Good morning, Ma’am.
2. Greetings
Before you sit, please pick up the pieces of paper
under your chairs and arrange your chairs properly.

How’s your day is it good so far? We’re doing fine,

That’s good to hear! Ma’am.
Have you eaten your breakfast?
Yes, Ma’am.
That’s good.

For your attendance, Ms. Secretary is everybody

Okay very good!

Our last topic is all about sequence. So, what is a A Sequence is a list of
sequence? Anyone? things (usually numbers)
that are in order.

otherwise it is a finite
sequence.

Can you give me some examples of sequence? (Students will give some
examples of sequence)

Good job! It’s nice to know that you can still

remember our previous topic. The last lessons that we
have discussed are connected to our topic for today but
before we dig into it, let’s have a short game to
energize our minds.

B. Motivation I am so sure that you are all very eager and excited to
learn for this morning. That’s why I have prepared a
game that is popular in Tiktok called “Guess the
Gibberish”. Are you ready, class? Yes, Ma’am.
If that’s so, here are the mechanics. In this game, you
need to guess the correct word by connecting the given
pictures that I will be showing. Just clap your hands
three times and say “Mine” if you want to answer. For
the first student who will guess the correct word will
receive a reward after. Are the mechanics clear to all
of you, class? Yes, Ma’am.
Let’s begin!

your reward/s later after our class. Did you enjoy
playing our game, class?

That’s good to know!

And now, we will be dealing with these words along

the way to our discussion for today.
Establishing a purpose for the lesson

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able

to:

1. describe an arithmetic sequence.

2. find the nth term of an arithmetic sequence.
3. appreciate arithmetic sequence in solving real
life problems.

Let’s now proceed to our activity for today.

Lesson Proper
In our next activity, you are going to list down the

number of passengers who went down to each places.
After that, we have to answer some follow-up
questions. Are we clear with these, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay, here it is.

Saulog Transit Inc. is one of many bus
transportation companies in the Philippines servicing
routes between Cavite and Metro Manila, Olongapo or
Baguio City. One day on its terminal at Mendez, via
Aguinaldo Highway, one (1) passenger went down at
SM City Bacoor, then another four (4) passengers (The students are jotting

at Tagaytay.
B. Analysis Processing Questions:

1. Does it form sequence? If it does, how is the

sequence formed?
2. What do you observed on the sequence
formed?

Great job, class! Thank you for your participation in

our activities a while ago. Now, let’s proceed to our
lesson proper which is the Arithmetic Sequence.
Are you ready to learn, class? Yes, Ma’am.

That’s good to know!

Discussion:

Let’s start by using the generated sequence from the

previous scenario.

The sequence generated from the given scenario which

is 1, 4, 7, 10 is an example of an Arithmetic Sequence
because it is formed by adding a constant number
which is 3 to the preceding term to obtain the next.
The constant number 3 is the common difference,
denoted as d, which can be obtained by subtracting
two consecutive terms (d=an-an-1).

Now, let’s proceed to its formula for us to easily

identify and solve the next few terms in the given
sequence.
a n = a 1 + (n-1)d whereas,

a n = last term or nth terms

a 1 = first term

n = number of terms

d = common difference Yes, Ma’am.

Did you understand, class? Can you follow?
That’s good to know!

For you to further understand these Arithmetic

Sequence and its formula, I have here some examples.

Example 1.
Find the 10th term of the sequence 3, 8, 13, 18, …

Here is the solution.

By the way, what is our first term in the given 3, Ma’am.
sequence? Anyone? Yes (name of student).

That’s right! How about the common difference and The common difference
the value of our n or number of terms? Anyone? Yes of it is 5 while the
(name of student). number of terms is 10,
Ma’am.
Very good! Thank you (name of student).

Using the formula of the general term of an arithmetic

sequence, we have
a n = a 1 + (n-1)d
a 10 = 3 + (10-1)5
a 10 = 3 + (9)5
a 10 = 3 + 45
a 10 = 48

By that, our 10th term in our example is 48. And since

5 is the common difference, here is the generated
sequence, 3, 8, 13, 18, 23, 28, 33, 38, 43, 48.
Yes, Ma’am
Did you understand, class? Can you follow?

That’s good to hear!

Now let’s proceed to another example.

Example 2.
In the arithmetic sequence 5, 9, 13, 17, … which term
is 401?

As you can see the problem asks for n when a n=401.

But don’t worry we will use the same formula to solve 5, Ma’am.
it. And again, what is the value of our first term?

That’s right! How about the common difference and The common difference
the last term? is 4 while the last term is
401, Ma’am.

That’s great! Thank you.

Here is our solution. By substituting these values in

the same formula, we have
a n = a 1 + (n-1)d
401 = 5 + (n-1)4
Solving for n, we have
401 = 5 + 4n-4
401 = 4 n+1
401−1 = 4 n+1−1
400 = 4n
1 1
400 ( ) = 4n( )
4 4
100 = n

Therefore, 401 is the 100th term.

Did you get it, class? Can you follow? Yes, Ma’am.
That’s good to know!

For our last example, let’s try to solve this one.

Example 3.
Find the 9th term of the arithmetic sequence 12, 24, 36,

12, Ma’am.
Again, what is the value of our first term?

That right! How about the common difference and nth The common difference
term? is 12 while the nth term
is 9, Ma’am.
Very good! Since we already have the values, let’s
substitute it with our formula. Anyone? Who wants to
try to solve it? (Students will raise their
hand)
Yes (name of student). a n = a 1 + (n-1)d
a 9 = 12 + (9-1)12
a 9 = 12 + (8)12
a 9 = 12 + 96
a 9 = 108

Very good! Thank you (name of student) The 9th term in our
sequence is 108, Ma’am.

Can you follow, class? Yes, Ma’am.

Is everything clear about Arithmetic Sequence and

finding the nth term of it? Yes, Ma’am.

C. Abstraction Now, let’s summarize the learnings that we have this

day!

What is an arithmetic sequence? An arithmetic sequence

is a sequence of numbers
such that the difference
between the consecutive
terms is constant.
Very well said!

How about getting the common difference in an We can get the common
arithmetic sequence? difference in an
arithmetic sequence by
subtracting two
Lastly, how to find the nth term of an arithmetic consecutive terms (d=an-
sequence? Anyone? an-1).

To find the nth term of a

sequence, we need to use
its formula which is a n =

our lesson for today. By that, let’s give yourselves an
Aling Dionisia Clap.
(Students will do the
Aling Dionisia Clap)
D. Application Since it seems that all of you understand our topic for
today about arithmetic sequence, let’s have a group
activity. The first row will be the group 1, second row
will be group 2 and last row will be the group 3. I
have here 3 sets of real life word problems in which
we can apply the Arithmetic Sequence. What you are
going to do is read and analyze the problem first then
answer it with the use of our formula in our discussion
a while ago. I will give you 5 minutes to do it. Are you Yes, Ma’am.
ready, class?

That’s good to hear! Let’s begin!

will fall in 6 seconds.

a n = a 1 + (n-1)d
57 = 1 5 + (n-1)7
Solving for n, we have
57 = 1 5 + 7n-7
Very good! Thank you, Group 1! How about Group 2? 57 = 7 n+8
What is your answer as well your solutions in your 57−8 = 7 n+8−8

a n = a 1 + (n-1)d
60 = 1 5 + (n-1)5
Solving for n, we have

Therefore, 10 weeks will

a person be dancing 60
minutes each day.

Well done, class! Thank you for all your participation

in our activity.
E. Assessment Now, to assess how much you have learned from our
