Last September 30, 2017, UAP MC ArchiVolution held its second GMM-CPD seminar at The Auditorium of
Mind Museum in BGC, Taguig City.
In line with the UAP Makati theme “Archivolution”, the team plots this Saturday September All-stars CPD
Special entitled “The Evolution of Architects Allied Services” featuring interesting personalities, to share
their knowledge and experience and to inspire us more in the practice of Architecture and its allied
services.
80% of the attendees are UAP Makati Chapter Member and 20% of the attendees came from different
chapters all over the Philippines.
The registration starts at 8:00 am to 9:00 am. After that is the official opening of the event spearheaded by
our Chapter President Ar. Michael Conrad S. Carandang.
The first presenter starts at 9:30 am. That was Ar. Ed Calma. Ar. Ed presented his diversified practice from
residential, institutional, offices, museums, commercial projects, and many more. He showed to the crowd
his techniques and concepts in developing his projects.
The second topic is about architecture and adaptive reuse. The notable speaker is none other than Ar.
Dominic Galicia. Ar. Galicia is a design-oriented practitioner whose work has been recognized for its
sensitive attention to both concept and detail. Ar. Galicia presented his projects including the famous
National Museum of Natural History in Rizal Park. He also showed his other projects related to adaptive
reuse. He showed to us his deep concern about the preservation of historic architectural sites. In fact, he
served as the Vice President of the Heritage Conservation Society (HCS) and for three year terms, he
presented the HCS on the Executive Council of the national Committee on Monuments and Sites (NCMS)
of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA).
The seminar took a break (lunch break) after Ar. Dominic’s talk and the seminar resumes at 1:00 pm.
At exactly 1:00 p.m., the Landscape Architect Paulo Alcazaren started his topic about his expertise which is
Landscape Architecture. Larch Paulo has been a practicing consultant in urban design and landscape

architecture for the last 30 years. He showed his project in the Philippines from Luzon to Mindanao. He is
very witty, clever speaker and full of humor. The crowd keeps on laughing while he talks even though the
topic is serious, he deliver it in a way that the audience will find it funny and at the same time people will
appreciate the deep meaning behind it. He is very concerned in the built environment, the climate change
and the DRR.
Followed by Ar. Carlos de Castro of GOUDIE Associates, the topic is about the Agile office setup or facility.
Ar. Carlos described the office setup needed for the likes of millennials because in due time, millennials will
invade the offices in general and the old school setup of office will definitely won’t work with the millennials.
Ar. Carlos also shared some of their notable projects in relation to their topic which is mostly interior
projects.
The last speaker is Ar. John Patrick Buensalido also known as Jason Buensalido. He is young and famous
architect. Started his firm 7 years ago, his office is in his mom’s house. Today, one of the influential young
professional in the world of architecture. Like Ar. Carlos, Ar. Jayson showed his unique office setup. The
interior is lively and one of a kind. He shared to us how he treats his employees in and outside the office.
He also showed to us his approach in his Modern Filipino Architecture. That the basic concept of his design
is derived from Bahay Kubo. All of his projects, residential or commercial, has a touch of Filipino
Architecture. He delivered to us how they (he and his team) manage to come up with their concepts, plans
and design.
After the presentations of the speakers are question and answer portion. Though, some of the speaker left
early because of their commitments, some have very important meeting, like Ar. Galica, after his talk, he
left to attend in the opening of his project The National Museum of Natural History.
All in all, the attendees are happy with the result of the CPD seminar. They love how UAP Makati delivers
this kind of event. The venue is good, the speakers are great, and the fee… it’s cheap, for 50 pesos per
CPD point. Most of the members are waiting now for the next CPD-GMM of UAP Makati.

In line with our FY20172018 theme, "Architecture Evolution, Now and Beyond," we celebrated World Architecture
Day 2017 by looking back at the Grandeur and Prestige of Old Manila. This is through a long-been anticipated
walking tour that we could also apply as Self-Directed Credit Units for our CPD requirement. Imagine a handful and
more of Heritage and Historical Destinations in Central Manila, Intramuros and Escolta matched by a sumptuous
Culinary exposure within the world's oldest Chinatown ever! From waking up to an invigorating sunshine to ending
up with a romantic sunset, it's truly a day of breathing Manila Nostalgia and periodical Architecture at its best.

Before the tour starts, there was a briefing in the conference room of Manila Post Office building. They showed us
the current situation of PhilPost and their services. After the short presentation, Ar. Miko Carandang, the UAP
Makati Chapter President gave certificate of recognition to the resource persons of PhilPost namely Ms. Arlene T.
Labao and Mr. Maximo G. Sta. Maria III.

Our guide is Mr. Lawrence Chan. He is a Financial Businessman, Blogger, Historical Advocate, and true blue Philatelist
VP of the FSCC Filipinas Stamp Collecting Club of the Philippines. His passion in sharing exciting trivia and stories
from his hobby enabled him to be adept on publishing online articles and TV documentary appearances tackling
historical Philippine Architecture. Some of which are translated in his non-mainstream yet talked about Postal
Walking Tours.

We toured the Manila Post Office building first then after that Mr. Chan walked us to the Escolta and showed us
there the old buildings that still operational. He showed us the Regina Building, the El Hogar and other prominent
historical buildings. The we had our lunch in the finest restaurant in Binondo. It is also the hang-out place of our
national hero Jose Rizal. After that, the next stop is the walled city Intramuros, the Fort Santiago, Baluarte and many
more.

Walk with Chan in partnership with United Architect of the Philippines Makati Chapter , PHLPOST, Intramuros
Administration, Escolta Commercial Association will be conducting a back-to-back, whole day walking and photo

DAY 01:
UAPMC attended the various CPD seminars, one of which was the seminar of our very own UAP Makati Chapter
Member, Arch. Dominic Galicia. In the evening, we were all in filipiniana for the welcome dinner which was originally
set at the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Paoay Church. The church was supposed to serve as the dramatic
backdrop of the event, but due to the inclement weather, the dinner was held at the Laoag Centennial Arena
instead.

DAY 02:
Day tour started with a visit to the church in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, and the church were the grandest wedding of Irene
Marcos Araneta was held in the year 1983. Next stop was at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Paoay. Then we
proceeded to Sitio Remedios in Currimao for lunch. This resort hotel is a must see for those traveling to Ilocos with
its traditional Filipino architecture plus the sumptuous food they serve is a must try. Their crispy dinuguan was the
best. 2nd to the last stop was the Burgos Windmill farm, a 150MW renewable energy project that supplies electricity
to the Ilocos region as well as the Luzon island grid. If not for the weather, we would have witnessed the natural
wonders that this place offers from above the west philippine sea. Last stop was the Cape Boejador.

Executive summary:
In line with the chapter's vision of celebrating World Architecture Day 2017 and carrying the advocacy of UAP
National's Green Sustainability, UAP Makati Chapter is once again strengthening its commitment to environmental
protection and stewardship; through the Pantabangan Reforestation Project Part 2!

From the successful initiative and efforts of UAP Makati Archimorphosis 2016-2017 just February this year, UAP
Makati Archivolution 2017-2018 vows to carry on the flame and continue this fulfilling involvement of once again,
greening an exclusive-access yet breath-taking property in the Pantabangan Watershed, Nueva Ecija with special
partnership of the Green Architecture Committee and Pantabangan LGU.

It is a one-day activity that let us experienced not just site preparation and actual planting of trees, but moreover
nourished our minds with environmental education and awareness, where Advocacy is turned into Ecological and
Social Responsibility.

This humanitarian effort once again, helps conserve the environment and pave the way for a greener future.
