A DETAILED LESSON PLAN

IN MATHEMTICS GRADE 7

Measures of Central Tendency (Mean,Median,Mode) of Ungrouped Data

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. define and identify mean, median and mode ;
b. illustrate the mean, median, and mode for ungrouped data,
c. find the mean, median, and mode of ungrouped data.
Values Integration: Appreciate working with group.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Measures of Central Tendency (Mean, Median, and Mode) of a Statistical Data
(M7SPIVf-1)
Reference: Lesson 1, Mathematics Quarter 4 – Module 4 M7SPIVf-1
Materials: Powerpoint, Cartolina, Marker, Activity sheet, visual aids, flat screen TV.

III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Daily Routine

Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am.

How are you today? We are good, Ma’am.

That’s good to hear.

So, is anyone absent today? None, Ma’am.

Very good, keep it up guys.

Before we start our class, let us have a short

prayer. May I ask everyone to please rise as
we acknowledge the presence of our Lord,
(EVERYBODY STAND)
Almighty God.
Yes, Ma’am.
Xyrille, please lead the prayer.
(PRAYER)
(PRAYER)

Thank you, Xyrille. You may now take your

seat.

B. Motivation

Before we start our class, let’s have an

activity first. This activity is called
“Arrange Yourselves". In this activity, I
will select seven representatives and they
will have to arrange themselves according
to what the situation will be. Is that clear, Yes, Ma’am.
class?

Now I want you to check under your chairs,

if you see “PEN” under your chair that
means you are one of the lucky 7. And if it
is “PENCIL” then better luck next time. Ma’am!

So who got a “BALLPEN”? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay, please proceed in front.

In this activity, the seven representatives

will only be given 30 seconds to arrange
themselves. While the students who got a
“PEN” will help these 7 representatives.
Yes, Ma’am.
Okay, fix yourselves now. So is everyone
ready? (Using powerpoint presentation and AGE: 12, 12, 12, 12, 13, 13, 13

1. Arrange yourselves according to your age,

from least to greatest.(30 seconds) a. The age that appears the most is 12, Ma’am.
Question:
a) What age appear the most among b. The average data or mean of the ages of all
the group of students? the 15 students is 12. 43, Ma’am
b) If we are going to get the average
data of your ages by adding all your ages
divided by the number of students, what c. The middle value of the ungrouped data is 12,
will be its mean? Ma’am.

c) What is the middle value or the HEIGHT: 128 cm, 130 cm, 135 cm, 136 cm, 140 cm
MEDIAN of the data? 146 cm, 147 cm

2. Arrange yourselves according to your

height. a. The median of their height is 136 cm, Ma’am.

Question:
a) What is the MEDIAN of your b. The height that is commonly seen among the
heights? group of students is 145 cm.

b) What height is commonly seen

among the group of students or the
mode?

Very good, thank you class, you may now

take your seat.

So what we did today is related to what we

are going to discuss today which are the
Measure of Central Tendency, Mean,
Median, and Mode.

C. Activity

On our next activity, I want you to collect

the sizes of your feet but before we start, I
will group you first.

Using this magic box, I want you to pick

one item which will identify your group Yes, Ma’am.
mates. So there are only three (3) choices,
that means there are only three groups.

Okay does everyone already pick an item? Group 1: 

2 minutes to decide for your group leaders
as well as in preparing for your chants.

Time is up!

Sample Answer:
Are you ready? So here is your activity.
1. 34, 36, 38, 35, 35, 37, 39, 40
You only have 5 minutes to do the task.
(Using powerpoint, cartolina and marker)
2. 34, 35, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40
Answer the following:

1. Collect the sizes of feet from your 294

groupmates. 3. Mean = =36.75
8
2. Arranged the sizes of feet from least to
greatest.
4. Median = 36 and 37
3. Calculate the average of the sizes of
your feet or the MEAN by adding all the 36+37 37
sizes divided by the number of sizes. ¿ = =36.5
2 2
4. Find the middle value or MEDIAN of
the sizes of your feet. 5. Mean = 35

5. Find the most occurring size or the

MODE of the sizes of your feet.

After answering, the leader will present the

activity.
Yes, Ma’am.
Okay time is up!
(PRESENTATION)
Are you ready to present?

Okay, group leaders please present your

answer.

Very good, class. Let us give everyone a

round of applause.
The measures of central tendency are mean, median
and mode, Ma’am.
D. Analysis
The mean is the average of a data set.
What are the measures of central tendency?
Σx
Using the formula x= where Σ x is the sum of the
N
What is a mean? data and N is the number of values in a data set.

The median is the middle value in a set of data.

How do we get the mean value of
ungrouped data? To find a median, arranged the scores either in
increasing or decreasing order and then find the

of values, find the two central values that split the

The mode is the measure or value which occurs most

frequently in a set of data. It is the value with the
greatest frequency.
And lastly, what is a mode?
To find the mode for a set of data, we need to select
the measure that appears most often in the set. If two
or more measures appear the same number of times,
How do we get the mode of ungrouped then each of these values is a mode and if every
data? measure appears the same number of times, then the
set of data has no mode.

That is correct.
The three kinds of averages are the mean, median and
E. Abstraction mode, Ma’am.

What are the three kinds of averages? The mean is the most commonly used measure of
central position, Ma’am.

What is a mean? The median is the middle value in a set of data,

Ma’am.

What is a median? To find a median, arranged the scores either in

increasing or decreasing order and then find the
middle score.
How do we get the median of ungrouped
data? The mode is the measure or value which occurs most
frequently in a set of data. It is the value with the
greatest frequency.
What is a mode?

F. Application

Now for your final activity, using the same

group, we are going to play “1, 2, 3 GO”
wherein different questions will be
presented and you are going to answer these
questions with limited time only. Once the
time starts, you need to answer the
questions continuously until the whole set Yes, Ma’am.
of questions end. A leaderboard will show if
what group aces the game. Are we clear,
