1. What is a topic sentence? 

A sentence that states the main point of a single paragraph and joins it to the thesis statement

of the whole essay. It is similar to a thesis statement only that the latter states the entire

essay’s main point.

2. What are the three components of a good topic sentence?

i. To ensure consistency, a good topic sentence transitions from single point to

another. Some of the transitional words applied include additionally, secondly,

firstly, furthermore to name but a few.

ii. It should restate the topic of the essay to keep the reader on the trail of your

points.

iii. Through the paragraph, an effective topic sentence makes a point which will be

discussed.

3. Name one transitional word for your essay’s first point, additional point and last point:
