Module 1
Lesson 2: Meaning of Special Education and Categories of Children with Special
Needs

MODULE ASSESSMENT
1. As a future educator, what do you think is the most significant value educating children with
special needs?
➢ The ability to see or visualize what lies ahead for their future, in my opinion as a
future educator, is the most important benefit of educating children with special
needs. I want them to live freely beyond their wills, not just to find their strengths
or develop their skills and talents. For them to live independently and productively,
I want them to be self-resilient. Because of their differences, I want them to see
how unique they are and to value themselves. I also want them to have the courage
to face the world without giving in to their fears.
2. Based on the vision of Special Education in the Philippines to help children with special needs
to fully realize their own potential for development and productivity as well as being capable
of self-expression of their rights in society, do you personally believe that we can make this a
reality?
➢ Yes, a vision kind of wants what we have to happen to come true. It is a goal or
accomplishment that we aspire to. It's possible that the Philippines' vision for
special education will become a reality. It requires a lot of commitment and initiative
for this to happen. Setting realistic goals and analyzing the circumstances
surrounding why these kids need to be taught seems like mindset to me. I can
make the vision a reality because, in my opinion, teachers need to be more
compassionate if they want to have a significant impact on their students' lives.
Teaching children with special needs requires a lot of effort and dedication, but as
a future educator, I am confident that I can do this.
