MEANING AND USES OF KITCHEN TOOLS
1. Chopping Board
 A hard-surfaced kitchen tool that is generally made of wood, wood laminate,
composites, or plastic materials and is used as a surface for cutting, slicing, chopping,
or mincing food products.
2. Spatula
 A kitchen tool, made from a variety of materials such as metal, plastic, silicone, or
wood, that is constructed with a handle attached to a flat blade. This kitchen utensil is
used for multiple purposes, depending on the shape, size and material in the spatula.
They are generally made of a flexible silicone plastic that can move easily around and
form into the shape of bowls, pans, and pots.
3. Kitchen Knife
 A utensil that has a handle and a blade that may or may not be sharp-edged. Available
in a wide variety of different types and sizes, a knife is used for cutting, chopping,
dicing, slicing, mincing, peeling, separating, and other kitchen tasks where the thin
metal shaft of a blade is of value for food preparation.
4. Kitchen Shear
 A kitchen tool, specifically made for food preparation, that is more versatile than a
standard pair of cutting scissors. This utensil is made with a plastic or rubber coated
handle which are often textured allowing for ease of cutting and gripping. The blades
have a notch for cutting through poultry joints.
5. Measuring Cups/Spoons
 Measuring cups are basically a cup-like tool to measure ingredients in different
forms that are used in cooking and baking. Measuring cups are used to measure the
volume of liquids such as milk, water, oil, or solid powders like sugar, flour or
washing powder. A measuring cup generally consists of scale markings at varying
heights and the material being measured is added to the cup till it reaches the desired
level.
 A measuring spoon is a spoon-shaped kitchen utensil, varying in size from a dash to
1 tablespoon or 15 milliliter measures that are used to hold specific amounts of both
dry and liquid ingredients. Measuring spoons are available in a variety of sizes and
materials. The smallest sets of spoons measure a smidgen, a pinch, and a dash.
6. Serving Tong
A kitchen utensil used to grasp food so it can be moved from one location to another
to be flipped, rotated, adjusted, or retrieved from areas that may be hot or simply best
handled with a tong. Available as tension activated, spring loaded, or scissor type
designs, there are many different tongs with sizes available for a variety of uses.

7. Egg Beater
A hand tool that is used to manually mix and beat eggs or other similar ingredients,
such as sauces, batter, egg whites, and dressings. This kitchen utensil is typically
made of stainless steel with stainless blades all of which can be easily cleaned. An
Egg Beater is most often used for mixing and blending foods quickly, easily and
without much preparation or cleanup.
8. Soup Ladle
A soup ladle is a specialized spoon which is designed for serving soups, gravies,
punches, and other liquids. Ladles can also be used for stirring and in food
preparation.
9. Can Opener
A kitchen utensil that is used to open or remove the top from a metal can. There are a
wide variety of different designs available ranging from manually operated small
tools to automated openers that quickly and easily remove the top of the can.
