Music of China
According to legend, the founder of Chinese music was Ling Lun who
created a system of music using a bamboo pipes tuned in the sounds of birds
wherein a twelve-tone music was created based on the pitch being produced.
On the other hand, Chinese philosophers took varying approaches to their
music. One of these is Confucius whose teachings dominated Chinese culture
and conceived music in the highest sense as a means in calming the passion
of dispelling of unrest and lust, rather than as a form of entertainment.
Traditionally, the Chinese have believed that sound influences the harmony
of the universe.
