Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each

SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if
you need to ask your facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better
understanding of the lesson. At the end of each module, you need to answer
the post-test to self-check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each

What Is It
at is It
This module will work as a competency-based learning resource,
guiding you through the target competency. You should be able to explain
the importance of steps in decision-making in the following discussion as
you progress through this module.

Robert Frost wrote, "Two paths diverged in a wood, and I—I took the
one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." Unfortunately,
not every decision is as straightforward as "Let's simply pursue this route
and see where it takes us," especially when it comes to making decisions.

3
Decision-making – refers to the act or process of making a decision,
especially in a group. It is a set of continuing processes for assessing
circumstances or problems, weighing alternatives, making decisions, and
carrying out the required actions. The availability of the correct information
to the right people at the right time is critical to the entire decision-making
process.

• Examine the decision and Implication of your

STEP 7 action

SEVEN (7) STEPS IN DECISION-MAKING

Here are the seven (7) suggested steps in a decision-making process:
Step 1. Determine the Decision

You must first identify the problem or question that needs to be addressed
before making a decision. Make your choice as specific as you can. You will
throw the decision train off the track before it even leaves the station if you
misidentify to solve or decide on a challenge that is too wide.
If you need to meet a deadline, make your decision measurable and timely.
Step 2. Assembly Important Facts
It's time to gather the knowledge you'll need to make that decision once
you've made your decision. Make an internal evaluation of your decision to

4
see where you achieved and where you failed. Look for data from outside
sources, such as studies or research.

Step 3. Identify Many Options

Now that you have relevant information at your hands, identify possible
solutions to your problem. There are usually various options to consider
while seeking to attain a goal.

Step 4. Look at the Evidences

Once you've narrowed down your choices, weigh the facts in support of or
against each one.
Examine what others have done in the past to achieve success, as well as
your own accomplishments and mistakes. Determine the disadvantages of
each of your choices and weigh them against the advantages.

Step 5. Pick One Option

You will make your decision at this point in the decision-making process.
Hopefully, you've recognized and clarified the decision you need to make,
obtained all necessary facts, and formulated and analyzed all of your
options. You're completely prepared to make a choice.

Step 6. Do It
Once you've made your decision, follow through! Make a plan to assist you
in making your decision a reality. Make a plan for improvement or a project
for your decision, and then follow through with the duties once the plan is
in place.

Step 7. Examine the Decision and the Implication of your Action

After a certain amount of time, which you defined in step one of the
decision-making process, take an honest look back at your decision. Have
you figured out a way to solve the problem? Have you given your answer to
the question? Have you met your objectives?
