PREACHING
Rules and Mechanics

1. Participants shall be sent a list of possible topics/verses, one week before the contest through
their respective youth leaders.
2. Preaching contestants can prepare outlines for these topics/verses but their final topic will be drawn
on the day of the contest.
3. After the draw lots of topics, contestants will be given one (1) hour to organize and finalize
their messages and after that, they must deliver an original sermon not to exceed seven (7)
minutes in length.
4. Piece may be delivered in either Bisaya, Tagalog or English.
5. Order of Preaching will be determined by drawing lots.
6. Color-coded flags (or through any other means) shall be raised during the event to signal out
specific time frames.
7. The contestant will receive a .5-point deduction for any portion of thirty (30) second
increments outside the allotted time. (For example, a piece timed at 8:12 would receive a half-
point deduction from the total score. A piece of 8:42 would receive a deduction of a full point
from the total score.).
8. Each sermon will be judged on Biblical content, outline, and effective delivery.
9. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decision shall be considered final and
irrevocable.

Criteria

 Mechanics – 20%
Approach/departure, Appearance, Poise/self-confidence, Voice projection and inflection,
Diction/enunciation 

 Delivery – 20%
Sincerity and warmth, Persuasiveness, Overall presentation (facial expression, gestures, eye
contact, etc.)

 Outline – 25%
Introduction/closing, Major points, Illustrations/anecdotes 

 Message content – 25%


Content based on Biblical doctrine, Scripture used to support text, Application to life

 Audience Response – 10%


The speech is delivered with effectiveness and persuasiveness evident in the response of the audience.
