Pipelines lengths are approximate at this stage of the project. Any variation due
to new rerouting will be included in the final revision of this document, after the
end of pipeline laying. A 5% contingency for pipelines length will be considered
to include any pipelines route modification.
All the pipelines are made of API 5L X60 carbon steel and are coated by means
of three layer of extruded high density polyethylene (3LPE).
EX-DE 00
Protection potential
the minimum design protective current density for new pipelines at the end of rated life will be 0.1
mA/m2 minimum.
This value, for the operating temperature of 77°C becomes:
0.1 · 2.2 = 0.22 mA/m 2.
Therefore the selected protection current density values for definitive CP
protection are:
Low resistivity areas: 0.39 mA/m 2
Medium resistivity areas: 0.22 mA/m 2
High resistivity areas: 0.22 mA/m 2
Very high resistivity areas: 0.22 mA/m 2.

Considering pipeline anticorrosion coating type and the resistivity values of soil in
which lines will be laid (listed under paragraph 3.1), for a conservative approach
the following insulation resistances will be considered referred to soil resistivity
areas:
Low resistivity areas: 20,000 Ω·m
Medium resistivity areas: 50,000 Ω·m
High resistivity areas: 100,000 Ω·m
Very high resistivity areas: 100,000 Ω·m
The tables here below list the characteristic of pipelines subdivided per CPS and

Based on the simplified pipelines network scheme and equivalent pipelines (see
ANNEX A) and on above data, characteristic resistance and attenuation constant
for each section of the pipeline network have been calculated.
Results have been reported in ANNEX A.
Considering data listed under paragraph 3.2.2, the pipelines potential shift for
each section of pipeline has been calculated. Results have been reported in
ANNEX A.
Calculation demonstrates that current requirements for potential shift will be:

which are less than values calculated for current density requirement; as
consequence, current requirements are verified.
The groundbed of each CPS will be sized for the maximum current output of the
T/R unit. The groundbed configuration will be verified according to groundbed
and total circuit resistance requirements.
Since each T/R has the same characteristics, groundbeds will be identical, with
the exception of concrete ring depth, which will change for each CPS location,
according to first groundwater level.

it will be obtained:
The expected life of Ti/MMO anodes is verified to be greater than the design life.
EX-DE 00
Considering Nos. 4 Ti/MMO anodes, 2.5 m spaced, deep well groundbed active
length is (using Equation 25 reported in Doc. n. 00250600DESG4182S):
Groundbed resistance calculation will take into account the following soil
resistivity values at groundbeds installation areas:

Because Ra > Rmax, this groundbed resistance value is not acceptable and
calculation shall be repeated until Ra results less than Rmax.
= 1.4
EX-DE 00
it will be obtained:
The expected life of Ti/MMO anodes is verified to be greater than the design life.
The total DC circuit resistance Rtot [], including pipeline resistance vs. earth and
connecting cables resistance, is calculated as follows:
