DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

School Grade Level 7

Teacher Learning Area Mathematics
Time & Dates Quarter First

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates
understanding of key concepts of sets
and the real number system.

B. Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate

challenging situations involving sets and
real numbers and solve these in a
variety of strategies.

C. Learning Competencies /Objectives The learner solves problems involving

sets. M7NS-Ib-2
 The learner solves problems
involving two sets.

II. CONTENT SOLVING PROBLEMS INVOLVING

TWO SETS
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Material pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from Learning
Resources (LR Portal)
B. Other Resources Mathematics Patterns and Practicalities,

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Activity # 1
presenting the new lesson Group Activity (5min.)

Use Venn diagram to represent the

problem below.

A group of 25 high school students were

asked whether they play basketball or
volleyball or both. Fifteen of these
students play basketball, twelve play
volleyball and two say they do not do
neither sports.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (5min.)

Based on the problem in Activity # 1 and

on your Venn diagram, answer the
following questions. (5 min.)

21
a. How many students play basketball
only?
b. How many students play volleyball
only?
c. How many students play both sports?
d. How does your Venn diagram help
you to answer these questions?

(Explain: Venn diagrams can be used to

solve word problems involving union
and intersection of sets.)
C. Presenting examples/instances of Activity # 2
the new lesson Group Activity (5min.)

Ask each group to create a problem

involving two sets and formulate five
questions about the problem. Post the
group output.
D. Discussing new concepts and (10 min.)
practicing new skills #1
Based on activity # 2, each group
should answer the problem of the other
groups. After five minutes ask them to
post their answer on the board below
the output they answered. Each team
leader will check and discuss the
answer on the board.
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2
F. Developing mastery (Leads to Activity # 3
Formative Assessment) (15min.)

Study the given sets and Venn diagram

below, and answer the following
questions.
F= {students who can speak Filipino}
B= {students who can speak Bicol}
U= {students of 7-Love}

Questions:
1. How many students can speak
Filipino?
2. How many students can speak
Filipino only?

3. How many students can speak Bicol?
4. How many students can speak Bicol
only?
5. How many students can speak both
Filipino and Bicol?
6. How many students cannot speak
Filipino and Bicol?
7. How many students are there in 7-
Love?
G.Finding practical applications of In what situation did you encounter
concepts and skills in daily living solving real-life problems involving set
operations.
H. Making generalizations and How do you solve problems involving
abstractions about the lesson two sets?
I. Evaluating learning Construct Venn diagram to represent
the problem below and answer the
following questions.

In a class of 50 students, 30 students

like Araling Panlipunan, 26 students like
Filipino, 14 like both subjects. Find the
number of students who like;
1.Araling Panlipunan only
2. Filipino only
3. Either Math or Science
4. Neither Araling Panlipunan nor
Filipino
J. Additional activities for application or Suppose B= {people who believe in
remediation God} and D= {people who do good to
 Assignment/Agreement others}. Melissa drew the Venn diagram
(_________ minutes). Fill in below any as shown below. What can you say
of the four purposes about how Melissa illustrated the sets?
Reinforcing/strengthening the day’s
lessons
Enriching/inspiring the day’s lessons B
Enhancing/improving the day’s lessons
 Preparing the new lesson
