lodgement of an Australian Permanent
Residency visa known as the Global
Special Humanitarian (Subclass 202)
Visa (“the Subclass 202 Visa”) through
the Community Support Program.

Support Program visa
program.
To apply for a visa under the
Community Support Program,
ECWA must sponsor a visa
applicant.
Eastern Christian Welfare Organisation Ltd
(ECWA), which has as its board of directors
the 11 Archbishops, Bishops and
Patriarchal Vicars of the Middle Eastern
Christian religions in Australia. As a
Christian Church based organisation,
ECWA can sponsor people living overseas
through the Community Support Program
Visa to come to Australia on an
Australian Permanent Residency Visa.

To apply as a visa applicant
through ECWA, you must be
living outside your country of
origin, be a refugee and be
subject to substantial
discrimination amounting to

Under the Community Support
Program, the Department of
Home Affairs requires each visa
application to have an Assurer
of Support. An Assurance of
Support is a legal commitment
by the Australian Supporter to
repay to the Australian
Government certain welfare
payments paid to the visa.
The Australian Supporter will be
required to sign a form making
a legal commitment to repay to
the Australian Government any
recoverable Centrelink
payments made to the visa
applicants covered by the
Assurance of Support.
When the Australian Supporter
signs the form, they are making
a legal commitment to repay to
the Australian Government any
recoverable Centrelink
payments made to the visa
applicants covered by the
Assurance of Support while the
Assurance of Support is in
force.
Recoverable payments
currently are:
1. Austudy Payment
2. Crisis Payment
3. Newstart Allowance
4. Parenting Payment (Partnered)
5. Parenting Payment (Single)

Who can give an Assurance of
Support (AoS) under Community
Support Programme?
An Assurer must reside in
Australia at the time of
application and be:
1. an adult (aged 18 years or
over);
2. an Australian citizen, the
holder of an Australian
permanent visa or an
eligible New Zealand
citizen;
3. able to provide proof of
income at or above the
income test threshold for
the current and previous
financial year.
The assurer needs to consider
their circumstances and assess
whether they are able to meet
the legal and financial
obligations placed on them by
giving an Assurance of Support.
The Assurer does not have to
be the sponsor of the new
migrant to give an Assurance of
Support.
An assurer may assure a
maximum of 4 adults at any one
time under the Community
