Joseph 1

Joseph 1 (Possibly a 2nd Joseph lesson next week: the NEST Joseph video is in 2 parts). If you
find and show a single video of Joseph’s whole life, simply combine the suggested scripture
reading and questions in Lessons 5 and 6

Open with prayer.

Introduce and show the Joseph video (or 1st video). Joseph and his family are living near the
Dead Sea where young Joseph is betrayed by his brothers sold him into slavery and the tribe who
bought Joseph took him to Egypt.

Bible reading: [scripture needs to be split up if Joseph is 2 videos and 2 classes] Genesis. Feel
free to add, shorten or change this reading which may be necessary based on the length and
content of the Bible video you use.

Genesis 37: 3-36 Joseph betrayed by his brothers

This reading takes 7 minutes. But keep in mind that the suggested verses in this section and all
following sections may need to be lengthened or shortened based on available class time.
Map 5 here if this is a combined life of Joseph where he was sold by his brothers as a slave to an
Egyptian. If Joseph is presented in 2 classes, then there is no map here.
Specific questions:

Open ended questions:

1. Did anyone see any difference between what was on the video and what we read in the
Bible? (On the first and second class, tell the kids that this question is coming as we start the
video.)
2. What was the best thing you saw from either the video or the Bible reading?
3. What do you think about Jacob showing such favoritism toward Joseph?
4. Describe the emotions of envy and anger that Joseph’s brothers felt toward Joseph.
5. How did Jacob express his love for Joseph?
