Introduce and show the David video

Bible reading:

1 Samuel 17: 15-51 David and Goliath

This reading takes 8 minutes.

Remind the children that David’s age would have been in middle school or high school when he
fought the Goliath. The class also talked about the Philistines 2 weeks ago when we saw the
Sampson video.
Map shows approximate land of Philistia, where Goliath was from.

Specific questions:

1. What was the name of the young person who became a hero by defeating the giant?
David
2. What was the name of this Philistine giant? Goliath

Open ended questions:

1. Did anyone see any difference between what was on the video and what we read in the
Bible? (On the first and second class, tell the kids that this question is coming as we start the
video.)
2. What was the best thing you saw from either the video or the Bible reading?
3. How could David be so brave when all the solders shook with fear?
4. Where do you see God’s love for the young boy, David?
