I. Overall Impression of the Text

A. Author’s Purpose
- The author's goal is to inspire Filipinos to fight for independence by exposing
the Spaniards' suffering inflicted on the previously flourishing land brimming
with abundance and prosperity The author also hoped to persuade his readers
to take actions that would aid in their fight against the Spaniards. He exhorts
the Filipinos to unite in their feelings in order to gain the strength needed to
fight the Spaniards. It was critical to the revolutionaries that the Filipinos were
made aware of what Spain was doing to the archipelago in order to gain the
people's full support.
B. Readers
- The author wrote this in Tagalog for Bonifacio's kababayans, or Filipinos.
C. Context
- The context reveals the Spaniards' betrayal regarding their promise made
possible by the blood pact between Legaspi and Sikatuna It also illustrates
how fervently Bonifacio persuaded his kababayans to open their eyes and see
the reality they were living in This further explains the circumstances that
form the events of Andres Bonifacio's writing, which can be fully understood
and assessed in which events were clarified from the beginning to the end.
II. Content Analysis
A. Thesis Statement and Main Ideas
- The thesis statement and main idea can be found in the part where Bonifacio
wrote, “The sun of righteousness rising in the East, is clearly pointed out to
our long-blinded eyes, the path we must tread, its light is visible to our eyes,
the nail that fits the death offered to us by the savage behavior. ”
B. Supporting details
- Bonifacio included visual cues to remind people of how the Tagalogs were forced
to live. Acknowledge a wrong sense of faith as mentioned in the part, “We have
been led astray into a false faith and the pride of our People has been plunged
into the pit of evil”. In the section where he says, "and if we dare to ask for even
the slightest favor, the answer becomes that we are thrown away and away from
the company of our beloved child, spouse, and elderly parent," he also mentions
the effect of asking for even a minor change in the system. "What is the right thing
for us to do?" Bonifacio emphasized. In the section where he listed all of the
possible actions that his fellow citizens could take to fight for their rights.
III. Synthesis
A. What do you think was the reason why Bonifacio wrote “Ang Dapat Mabatid ng mga
Tagalog”?
- Bonifacio wrote this to enrage the people so that he could launch the
revolution against Spain with them. Inequality and injustice were widespread,
and the chasm between Spaniards and Filipinos was wide. As the colonizers
looked down on the country's native population, Bonifacio sought to open the
eyes of the Tagalogs in order to persuade them to join or support the
Katipunan ideology, which he believed would improve the people's condition.
Bonifacio longs for freedom, both for his fellow countrymen and for our
homeland, which has suffered as a result of the Spaniards' unjust treatment.
B. What have you realized after reading the text?
- We realized after reading the text that forgetting the original state of the
Philippines is simple, especially when long-term colonization is taking place.
Longer than 300 years we have also realized that it is still important to be
reminded of what the Filipinos went through in order to avoid repeating the
mistakes of the past. Furthermore, we must keep in mind that Filipinos must
have a unified thought, purpose, and spirit in order to finally stand up for
ourselves without relying on other nations. Furthermore, we have learned
that, despite being known as a hero who fought for the Filipinos with
weapons, Andres Bonifacio, like Jose Rizal, used the power of writing to instill
a sense of unity and nationalism among their countrymen in order to fight for
independence.
C. Write a response to Bonifacio in the form of a letter using your own pen name.
- These past events may disappoint you, yes and I totally get what you wanted
to imply that because of our generosity and being kind hearted to foreign our
compatriots didn’t take a pause to think about everything if these people are
worth of our kindness which turned out that its true they are not worth it for
what they have done to us, to our country. As a student and a concerned
citizen of our country, I assure you to be one of those people to have an
initiative to fight for our freedom, for the things that we deserve from the
very beginning I won’t let these oppressors to rule this motherland. I still have
hope to our compatriots that we have the same desire to treasure all your
sacrifices for our country. – Sol
