 Open-Channel Hydraulics by V.T Chow
 Hydraulics & Fluid Mechanics Including Hydraulics Machines by Dr. P.N. Modi , Dr. S.M. Seth
 Flow in Open Channels by K Subramanya
2
Dr. R. Swain, Asst. Prof., NIT RKL
 To understand the basic properties of fluid and changes at different atmospheric conditions.

 To study behavior of fluids whether in motion or at rest. Hydrodynamics is the study of fluids in
motion, and hydrostatics considers the properties of fluids in static equilibrium (motionless)

 To study the motion of fluid without going through forces causing the motion (Fluid Kinematics)
and knowing the forces causing the motion (Fluid Dynamics)

 To study flow due to gravity i.e. open channel (River), its characteristics at different velocity and
impact of hydraulic structures on the flow.

 To study different types of open channel flow such as uniform flow, critical flow, GVF and RVF.

 To study the turbulence and its impact on hydraulic structures including bridges.

 To study flow due to pressure i.e. pipe flow, different types and losses in pipe flow.

 To study dimensional analysis and to make prototype of hydraulic structure. 3
