Enhancing student writing skills with


chatGPT: the case of university EFL
Learners

1. Introduction

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence that provides quick, well-


formulated answers to a variety of questions. Chat GPT is a creative and
witty tool. It's even might help students to improve their writing
abilities.
ChatGPT can encourage students to enrich their abilities in writing
through different ways. As a result, this research proposal deals with
the importance of ChatGPT in improving the writing skills of students in
universities
This study is important for students to know the role played by
ChatGPT in helping to write well. This study could convince some
Teachers to take ChatGPT as a means of helping students within the
department.
2. The literature review

The effective use of ChatGPT for students can help them to


do better in their writing. From refining their writing style to
generating fresh ideas and improving their vocabulary, ChatGPT
can help breathe life into their words.
In fact, a recent study conducted by MIT found that
College_educated professionals who used ChatGPT to
complete writing tasks were able to finish in nearly half the
time it took those who relied on traditional word processors.
The quality of their work also improved by 45%
“ChatGPT teaches students to ask better questions and
then defend those questions, which could help them become
real scientists.” ChatGPT can also be used to incite classroom or
lab discussion, said James W. Pennebaker, PhD, a professor of
psychology at the University of Texas at Austin.

On campuses across the US, faculty, administrators, and
students alike are talking about ChatGPT. If you haven’t heard,
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence tool that mimics human
conversation and writing using predictive text. It can expound
on almost any topic, from climate change to literary criticism. It
can write emails, sonnets, stories, and brochures. It can suggest
revisions to specific sentences and phrases (such as resume
bullet points).
3. Methodology

This study will be a combination between quantitative and


Qualitative data collection and analysis methods. Students who
are going to participate will be aged 19_25 years old and they
are from TUNISIA. They study in higher institute in TUNISIA. The
total number that are going to be surveyed are 100 students.
They are going to be students from one university. There will be
a use of Google Forms. They will get the questions online. In
order to collect their attitude towards the importance of
ChatGPT in helping students to be better in writing. This study
will be analysed using descriptive statistics.
4. Expected results

The outcomes of the survey are expected to shed the light on the
importance of ChatGPT in enhancing students writing skills. Most
students who will answer the survey will have a positive attitude
towards ChatGPT which can help them to write better. This study can
encourage students to use ChatGPT as a tool to enhance their abilities
in writing.
