“Australian Coins”
Lesson 2 of 5

Brief Description of Broader Unit and Lesson –


In this lesson, students will watch a short YouTube video about the value of Australian coins. Students will then
complete a work sheet that will allow them to order the Australian coins in their value order from lowest to
highest. By the end of this unit of work, students should have the ability to associate Australian coins with their
value.

Learning Objectives –

Students will UNDERSTAND: (Concepts, principles, ‘big ideas’)


- Every coin has a value, and the size of the coin does not determine the value.
- How many cents are in a dollar

Students will BE ABLE TO: (do)


- Describe each of the Australian coins – focusing on their colour, size, shape and the images on them.
- Order the Australian coins from lowest to highest value.
