A. Oleopneumatic shock strut

The shock strut consists essentially of a cylinder in which slides a piston tube carrying the wheel axle.
The light alloy cylinder is externally equipped with :
-- the two leg hinge pins,
-- the actuator attachment,
-- the torque link upper attachment,
-- the shock strut filler valve,
-- the indicator switch control.
The lower bearing used to guide the piston tube is secured internally. This bearing is equipped with a
bearing ring, the dynamic seal, a static seal and a scraper to protect the piston tube.
The piston tube of ground steel chrome--plated on the outside is equipped at the lower end with a half--fork
holding the wheel axle.
The lower attachment of the torque link and the brake unit attachment are machined out of the half--fork.
The lower part also receives the inflation valve.
A piston tube guide bearing and the compression/expansion throttling device are secured at the upper part.
The separator piston slides inside the piston tube.
B. Torque link
The torque link consists of two light alloy half links joined by a hinge pin with adjusting shims.
Two chrome--plated steel pins secure the torque link to the cylinder and to the piston tube.

4. OPERATION (Figure 2)
A. Shock strut compression
When the piston tube starts to sink, the hydraulic fluid, restrained by the throttling ports of the compression
restrictor, flows from the upper chamber to the intermediate chamber. The expansion restrictor is applied
against its seat and thus rendered inoperative.
When the pressure in the intermediate chamber becomes higher than that in the lower chamber, the
separator piston is driven back by the hydraulic fluid and compresses the nitrogen in the lower chamber.
The piston tube travel stops when the lower chamber pressure equals the load applied to the wheel.
B. Shock strut expansion
When the load applied to the wheel drops, the shock strut expands under the action of the energy stored by
the nitrogen during compression. The expansion restrictor is applied against the compression restrictor.
The hydraulic fluid is then throttled through the expansion restrictor ports, thus slowing down the shock strut
expansion motion.
