I. OBJECTIVES
The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of
A. Content Standards combination and probability.
The learner is able to use precise counting technique and
B. Performance Standards/ probability in formulating conclusions and making decisions.
C. Learning Competencies/
(M10SP-IIIi-j-1)
Objectives
Cognitive: a. Identify dependent event.

Psychomotor: b. Find the probability of dependent event.

c. Relate probability of dependent events to real life through
Affective: activities.

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reviewing Previous Lesson or Activating prior knowledge/Reviewing
Presenting the New Lesson
The teacher will activate the prior knowledge of the students by
presenting the following pictures. Let the students choose.

1. Which road will you take? Left or right?

2. Hot or Cold?

3. To pass the test or to fail?

4. Playing Dota or Study your Lesson?

5. Mahal ko or Mahal ako?

 What is your observation about the activity?

 Was it easy for you to decide what event to
choose?
 Is it possible to choose both?
 Can it happen at the same time?
 What do you call an event that can happen at the
same time?
 What do you call an event that cannot happen at
the same time?
B. Establishing a Purpose for the
Lesson Activity: Fact of Bluff (Picture Analysis)

Mechanics:
a. Divide the class into five.
b. Students will use illustration board and a
chalkboard provided by the teacher.
c. Teacher will instruct the students about the game.
d. The total points of the group will be the score of the
members and each problem is equivalent of 3
points. Thus, the activity has a total point of 15.

Instruction: Write FACT if you think that the picture has a

chance to happen and BLUFF if it doesn’t show any
possibilities to happen.
1. FACT

2.

FACT

3.
BLUFF

4. FACT

5. BLUFF

Questions:
After the activity, the teacher will ask.
1. How do you find the activity?
2. Choose two events that you can compare and say
something about it.
3. What do you think is the right term about the
relationship of these two events?
The teacher will present the lesson.

Presentation of objectives
1. Identify dependent event.
2. Find the probability of dependent event.
3. Relate probability of dependent events to real life
through activities.

Unlocking of word
1. Draw/drawn

THINK-PAIR-SHARE

Consider a box that contains 14 red balls, 12 blue balls, and 9

yellow balls. Suppose that two balls are drawn one after the
other without putting back the first ball. Find the probability
that:
a. The first is red and second is blue.
C. Presenting Examples / Instances of
the New Lesson b. Both balls are yellow.

In the given situation, if the ball was not placed back in the box,
then drawing the two balls would have been dependent events.
In this case, the event of drawing a yellow ball on the second
draw is dependent on the event of drawing a yellow ball on the
first draw.

When the outcome of one event affects the outcome of another

event, they are dependent events. If two events, A and B, are
dependent, then the probability of both events occurring is the
product of the probability of A and the probability of B after A
occurs. In symbols,

P (A and B) = P (A) · P (B following A)

Example: A box contains 7 white marbles and 7 red marbles.

What is the probability of drawing 2 white marbles and 1 red
marble in succession without replacement?
D. Discussing New Concepts and
Practicing New Skills #1 On the first draw, the probability of getting a white is
7
. On the second draw, the probability of getting a white
14
6
marble is . Then on the third draw, the probability of getting
13
7
a red marble is .
12
7 6 7 7
P( 1 white, 1 white, 1 red) = · · =
14 13 12 52

E. Discussing New Concepts and

Practicing Skills #2
F. Developing Mastery (leads to A basket contains 6 apples, 5 bananas, 4 oranges, and 5
Formative Assessment) guavas. Alexander randomly chooses one piece of fruit,
eats it, and chooses another piece of fruit. What is the
probability that he chose a banana and then an apple?

The teacher will validate student’s answers.

Time to reflect!
The teacher will give an example showing real life
application of dependent event and will be asking
students to give a certain example.

G. Finding Practical Applications of Possible examples:

Concepts and Skills in Daily Living 1. Not paying your power bill on time and having
your power cut off.
2. Being the first person to enter a movie theater
and finding a good seat.
3. Buying a lottery ticket every day for 100 days and
winning the lottery.

When the outcome of one event affects the outcome of another

event, they are dependent events. If two events, A and B, are
H. Making Generalizations and dependent, then the probability of both events occurring is the
Abstractions about the Lesson product of the probability of A and the probability of B after A
occurs. In symbols,

P (A and B) = P (A) · P (B following A)

I. Evaluating Learning Directions: Read each question below. Write the letter
of the correct answer on your paper. Use the back
portion of the answer sheet for your solution.
