of educational opportunities for the promotion of regional and national development.

COURSE DESCRIPTION : This course deals with the study of the basic principles and theories of leadership and management as applied in a
school setting. Particular attention will be given to the analysis of developments and trends in the educational system and
their implications for educational leadership and management.

Further, the course covers the nature and components of leadership, principles of leadership, types of leadership
traits, abilities and skills, behavioral approaches to leadership styles, power and influence, contingency approaches to
leadership styles power and influence, contingency approaches to leadership and the different group dynamics essential to
effective leadership in the field of education.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES : To produce educational leaders imbued with the pedagogical competencies and technical expertise, and equipped
with the necessary values to manage an organization efficiently and effectively. The course is also intended to hone and
develop the leadership traits, skills and abilities of the students to prepare them for the managerial function in their
respective field of interest.
