1. Introduce yourself (Tell me a little bit about yourself, your academic background etc.)

2. Why did you choose this area/program of study?

ANS: I always had a keen interest in knowing about the information technology field, because of

additional but an important subject for me. Nowadays, we see the use of technology everywhere,
that is how we are connected and can communicate with each other from any corner of the
world, due to that my curiosity increases to get into this field. After completing twelfth grade, I I
took up the computer course instead of sitting idle so that I can move a step forward to my
dream.
Furthermore, I did not have much knowledge about the fact that there could be numbers of fields
such as networking technician, programmer, data analyst, software engineer etc. in IT also.
However, I was confused that which subject I need to choose at one point, but anyhow I made up
my mind to go for networking field, as it is pretty much easier to get job anywhere with the help
of CCNA certification for great package of income per year. But the thing that concerned me
more is the job satisfaction rather than the lump sum of money.

3. What will a potential employer find attractive about your current or past
accomplishments and/or education?
ANS: One should have several skills like problem solving, decision-making, analyzing, ability
to lead and support team. I do not have much experience in my past education, as during
schooling I mostly perform the role of leaders due to which I have skills to manage and
coordinate the tasks in proper manner. Moreover, I also know about computing skills such as
handling chunks of data etc.
Presently, I am working in a security company through which I am gaining experience no matter
if it is related to my dream job or not. I am always learning something new every day. As such
handling the situation, coordinating the team, maintaining proper records and how to react in
panic situations. These kinds of skills somehow will work for me at one point of my life.

4. List your top 5 marketable skills, related to your area of study and give at least one of
example of each skill of how you have put each of them to practice. (You can include
your transferable skills and technical skills.)

 RECORD-KEEPING

 PUBLIC SPEAKING
 TEACHING

1. COORDINATING:

SITUATION: Five years back when I was in 10th grade in high school, our school organized
a rally on ‘Earth Day’ which is celebrated on 22 April every year. There was a total of 150
students in total 30 from each section of 10th grade. Our teachers allotted us different areas to be
visited and one team leader for each group. I was also one of the team leaders, leading a group of
25 students. This announcement was made 15 days before the event.

TASK: As a team leader I needed to be responsible for handling everything. I had to prepare the
speeches, slogans, some small acts and many more activities which need to be performed at the
decided spot. After preparing all the stuff, I distributed the content among all, and I made
everyone rehearse their given contents which was related to create awareness to save planet
“EARTH”.

ACTION: When it was time to go for rally, one of our team members who must carry out the
major speech got sick and was unable to come, everyone got nervous at that point as nobody else
prepared the speech. I motivated all of them and told them not to panic. I prepared the speech
within an hour and spoke in an effective way that impressed me. In this difficult situation I
handled the situation in a very calm manner so that everything seemed to be easy and managed
successfully.

RESULT: At the end, everyone did their best and the public, in front of which they spoke,
appreciated the students as well as staff. The management team of the school liked my way of
coordinating and managing the event as planned. The team was rewarded with small gifts to
encourage.

2. RECORD - KEEPING:

SITUATION: Presently I am working in one of the security companies named Anderson Blake
Security in Oakville, I work there 5 days a week. I mainly work with the security manager and
my job is to main record of the orders which are shipped and received in a day. Usually there are
not more than 50 orders for each, but my manager told me that on Monday there would be nearly
200 orders for which I had to keep a record and then give it to the management team of the
company.

TASK: My major duty was to write down the names, id’s, number of parcels received, shipped,
company name, time in and out for both receiving and shipping. Then I hand it over to other
employees to scan and pass keep record in their systems. It was a hard task for me because along
with this I also had to patrol the site every three hours. Within four hours I received eighty
parcels, everything was going well as planned. I just started checking the log file and timing of
the appointment, suddenly I saw one parcel was missing from the list. It didn’t show up on time
as it must be before 12pm however it was 2pm when I saw.

ACTION: At that time, I rechecked the data in the system and verified with my own record
book. Then I made sure that the driver didn’t show. I immediately informed the manager and as
well as the supervisor. Then the supervisor emailed and advised me to call the dispatcher,
company and report the incident to company as soon as possible. After this company replied that
they had delivered it to the wrong place and will send another driver with parcel.

RESULT: At the end of the shift, I saw my record booklet and compared with the appointments
it was all done with perfection. I also felt that I did my best and achieved today’s target which
was more satisfying.

3. RESEARCH:

SITUATION: In our country India, 26 January is celebrated as Republic Day of India. This
auspicious occasion is celebrated everywhere. In our school, teachers gave us an activity to do.
Each section was given a different state to represent among 28 states. Our section must present
something about the state of Bihar.

TASK: Everyone divided their work according to them. However, I had great art skills, so I
decided to draw a sketch on a famous painting. I searched a lot about it on the internet and from
my coursebooks, unfortunately I did not get the exact painting which wanted to do. At last, I
went to my teacher, and she helped me to complete my task, and gave me an idea.

ACTION: Later, I got an idea and started working on it. I got the painting of Madhubani which
is one of the kinds of peacock bird with various compositions on it. Within the 7 days I made the
two paintings with full dedication and interest.

RESULT: On the last day, everyone showed their work, some made cuisines, few were dressed
up like their tradition and many more. Afterwards, I showed my painting and got second division
among the whole class. Even, the painting was kept by the art teacher, and she pasted it on
display board which at the reception area. Everyone in my class was pleased with my work.

4. PUBLIC SPEAKING:
SITUATION: During my secondary education, we used to have assessment for speaking and
listening which is known as ASL. In speaking part, class was divided into group of 5 members.
Topics were distributed among all of us and within three days we had to prepare the content. It
was a kind of debate for 20 minutes. The topic of debate was Technology.

TASK: At that time, I was a group leader for my team, and I helped my team where they needed.
If any member felt that they do not have enough points to speak on, then I supported them in
initiating further discussion by providing them sufficient points. I began the discussion by
introducing the topic with full energy so that audience do not take it boring.

ACTION: I showed people-oriented behavior at that time. According to me, it was an effective
behavior because that situation required a friendly and approachable leader who can encourage
participation among the team. This type of behavior focuses more on the subordinate’s need. I
displayed my trust in team and showed acceptance to their issues and provide help whenever
required. Therefore, it was an effective in that situation.

RESULT: At last, it was time for the announcement of the results. I did not expect that our team
could also be the winner. Everybody there gave us a huge round of applause. The principal was
also impressed by our work. These kinds of activities encourage me to perform better than before
and participate willingly.

5. TEACHING:

SITUATION: Two years before, when I was in India, I was totally free after completing 12 th
grade. As I wanted to come to Canada for pursuing higher studies for which I had to wait along
for the visa application which almost took a year including all the formalities. In that way I
decided to do some activity through which I can nourish my art skills. I then went to the
YouTube tutorials which could help me to practice in an easy way.

TASK: I started making oil paintings on canvas. Within 3 months, I made a painting of a
religious place, which is situated in Amritsar, Punjab. My family and friends liked it most. After
that, one of my cousins requested me to teach her how to make paintings, draw sketches,
portraits. I also decided that I should help her to learn.

ACTION: Me and my cousin bought new sketch pencils, drawing sheets etc. I then her gave the
basic knowledge of the art taught her about the origin, importance and meaning of colors in art
and in our daily life. This thing created an interest in both of us to know more. Then it comes to
drawing, I gave her rough idea and draw the grids on the sheet, so that she can join the lines
easily and can make some pattern, give a shape. She started catching the things and followed my
instructions.

RESULT: My cousin surprised me with my portrait made by her which was the result of my
support and motivation to her. I did not ask for any kind of treat but to return the favor, as she
was very thankful to me.

5. What is your biggest career aspiration (now or for future)?

ANS: It is not necessary that everyone should have their idol, but some do have because that one
person can inspire individual to keep going on to achieve their goal. However, my biggest career
aspiration was my brother who was from my maternal side. He wanted to become a pilot,
whenever I went to visit him, I always saw books in his hands, he kept on studying, researching
and never ever went on vacations, never wasted his time in doing silly things. He kept on trying
and always gave 100% to his studies and goal.
Instead, he was not in the I.T field but I salute to his dedication and struggle to achieve the goal
to become a pilot. Whenever, I feel low and depressed because of my failure in any of the topics
related to my field of study. I always remember his thoughts, his way of learning and
experimenting new things.
