F. Developing Activity 6:
Mastery Read the paragraph then identify which is reality and fantasy from
the underlined phrases. Write your answer in the chart.
Last summer, I went into the dusty, old garage. I walked up to the
dirty car. With my small magic flashlight, I looked under the seats. I
found a smelly yellow sock. Then I found a helpful lizard. He told me
to look under the car. As I followed him, I found a singing spider. He
sang about a fat pig. Next thing I knew, I saw a flying pig, soar into
the stairs. A talking ant came up to me, and he said, “that flashlight
is making you see things.”

3. What makes up a story fantasy?
It is the characteristics:
- Unrealistic characters. (This could mean
animals are able to talk or the characters
have magical powers.)
- Unrealistic events happen (Example: magic
carpet rides or travellig through time)
4. Why do authors write fantasy?
- To entertain their readers. They are creative
and come up with silly or crazy story that will
keep the reader engaged in reading.
Examples of Fantasy:
- The Chronicles of Narnia (by C.S. Lewis)
