Thì quá khứ đơn (Past simple) dùng để diễn tả hành động sự vật xác định trong quá khứ hoặc
vừa mới kết thúc.

2. Cách dùng thì quá khứ đơn


Cách dùng Ví dụ
He visited his parents every weekend.
Diễn đạt một hành động xảy ra một, một vài lần hoặc chưa
bao giờ xảy ra trong quá khứ
She went home every Friday.
She came home, switched on the computer and
checked her e-mails.
Diễn đạt các hành động xảy ra liên tiếp trong quá khứ
She turned on her computer, read the message
on Facebook and answered it.

3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn


Trong câu có các trạng từ chỉ thời gian trong quá khứ:

– yesterday (hôm qua)

– last night/ last week/ last month/ last year: tối qua/ tuần trước/ tháng trước/ năm ngoái

– ago: Cách đây. (two hours ago: cách đây 2 giờ/ two weeks ago: cách đây 2 ngày …)

– when: khi (trong câu kể)

Remember:

1. We use the past simple for past events or actions which have no connection to
the present.
2. We use the present perfect for actions which started in the past and are still
happening now OR for finished actions which have a connection to the
present.
3. We CAN'T use the present perfect with a finished time word:
o NOT: I've been to the museum yesterday.
