A DETAILED
LESSON PLAN IN
MATHEMATICS
(COMPLEX RATIONAL
ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS)
I. OBJECTIVES
At end of the session, the students should be able to;
a) reduce the fraction in simplest form,
b) add or subtract the rational expression with dissimilar and dissimilar denominators,
and
c) develop cooperative learning in group activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Rational Algebraic Expression –Complex rational algebraic expressions

References: Mathematics 8- Module 3 Quarter 1 -

Materials: Laptop, Powerpoint Presentation and Chalkboard pictures.

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

“Before we start our class, let us

all put ourselves in the holy Prayer
presence of our Lord.”

“Please, lead the prayer.”

2. Greetings

“Good morning, class!” Good morning, Ma’am

3. Checking of Attendance

” Is there any absent in the class?” None, Ma’am

4. Recalling of the
Classroom Rules
“Before we begin, let us recall
what to do in our classroom”

Classroom Rules: The 5 P’s

1. Be prepared

2. Be positive

3. Be productive
4. Be respectful

5. Be participative
B. Developmental Activities

1. Review

“Before we start to our new lesson,

let us have first a review regarding
our previous lesson about adding
and subtracting similar rational
expressions.”

“What are the steps in adding and

expressions?”
Step 1: Factor the denominator of each fraction
to help find the LCD.
Step 2: Find the least common denominator
(LCD).
Step 3: Find the new numerator for each
fraction by dividing the LCD.
Step 4: Simplify the numerator by distributing.
Step 5: Combine by adding the numerators and
keeping the LCD.
Step 6: Factor the numerator if possible.
Step 7: Simplify or reduce the rational
expression if possible. In this case, the rational
expression cannot be simplified.

“Very Good!”

C. Motivations

“Let’s have an activity. It is

about complex rational
expressions, we will recall and
use it in our topic for today.”

“Do you understand?” Yes ma’am

“Okay, Let’s start!”
