Sub:- Pre monsoon check of coaches to avoid water ingress inside the coaches.
Ref: DEE(G/Rly Bd letter no. 2001/Elect.(G)/138/5 dated 02.08.23.

Rly Bd vide letter under reference above, has reported the instances of rain
water ingress over SBC panel/control panel & other important areas where electrical
equipments are available in the coach causing flash, short circuit and smoke etc. and
directed Zonal Railways to launch a week long special drive to ensure proper sealing of
all joints to prevent water ingress in the coaches.

In view of above, divisions are advised to launch a 7 days special drive w.e.f.
07.06.23 to 13.06.23 to ensure proper sealing of all joints to prevent water ingress in the
coaches. A checklist for the reference has been prepared & enclosed as Annexure-A.

As the drive shall be completed by 13.06.2023, a summarized report of the drive

shall be submitted by 15.06.23 to this office.

Items to be checked durlng pre monsoon drive

points with proper gaskets in

Proper covering of pre-cooling/ charging
covers.

Non AC coaches
box covers, RRU covers.
Proper sealing gaskets in the junction
Meggering of coaches should be done and value should not be less than 2M2

by 500V Megger.
Earth leakage should be detected and rectified.
Special attention to battery cleaning.
Proper cover plates on the alternator terminals.

AC coaches
Use of proper sealing gaskets in the junction box covers.

Sealing of end wall junction boxes & terminal boxes with putty in EOG coaches.
Proper fitment of gaskets in ERRU, inverters& other underframe equipments
Meggering of feeder circuit/coaches should be done and value should not be

less than 2M2 by 500V Megger.

Earth leakage should be detected and rectified & proper battery cleaning be
ensured.

Ensure propercleaning ofdriptray of AC system.

Insulation of the terminal board of 50/60kVA transformer should be checked &
its proper closing be ensured with proper gasket.
Observe any sign of ingress of water in power & AC control panel in first shower
& if ingress is noticed, the same to be rectified.
Observe any sign of ingress of water and moisture in Harting connector & if
ingress is noticed, the same to be rectified.
Coaches having previous report of rain water dropping be checked properly.
Ensure proper tightness of IV/ZS couplers in EOG coaches.

Power Cars
No roof leakage and droppinglingress of water on power panels/DG sets.
Ensure proper closure and tightness of feeder junction box covers.
Ensure proper tightness of IV/ZS couplers in EOG power cars.

Sub: P're monsoon check of coaches to avoid water ingress inside the coaches.

There has been instances of rain water ingress over SBC panel/control panel & other important areas
where electrical equipments are available in the coach causing flash, short circuit and smoke etc.

In view of ensuing monsoon, Zonal Railways are advised to launch a special drive to check all joints
are properly sealed to prevent ingress of water on control panels/wiring of AC coaches for 7 days w.e.f
7.6.2023 to 13.06.2023 to ensure proper sealing ofaljoints to prevent water ingress in the coaches.
