THERE IS – THERE ARE

Để diễn đạt ý "có một/những thứ gì đó", hai cấu trúc tiếng Anh phổ biến nhất được dùng là: There
is và There are.
1. There is
- Khẳng định:
There is + danh từ không đếm được (uncoutable nouns) hoặc danh từ số ít (plural nouns)+ trạng ngữ
chỉ nơi chốn, chỉ thời gian (nếu có)
Trước danh từ số ít, con có thể gặp một số từ sau: a, an, đại từ chỉ lượng (some, a lot of…..)
Ví dụ:
There is an apple.
There is a lot of water in the pool.
There is /a big tree/ in the garden.
- Phủ định:
There is not (there isn't) + any + danh từ không đếm được (uncountable nouns) hoặc danh từ số ít
(singular nouns) + trạng ngữ (nếu có)
Ex: There isn’t a ruler on the desk.
(Có một cái thước ở trên bàn.)
There isn’t any water in the bottle.
(Không có nước trong chai.)
- Thể nghi vấn:
- Is there any + Danh từ không đếm được (uncountable nouns) hoặc danh từ số ít (singular nouns) +
trạng ngữ (nếu có)?
Lưu ý
- Trước danh từ số ít cần dùng A, AN, THE
- Trước danh từ không đếm được không dùng a/ an nhưng có thể thêm NO (không), A LITTLE (một
ít), LITTLE (ít), MUCH (nhiều), A LOT OF (nhiều)
2.There are:
There are + danh từ số nhiều (singular nouns) + trạng ngữ (nếu có)
Ex:
- There are four people in my family.
(Nhà tôi có bốn người.)
- There are a lot of homeless in Nguyen Hue street.
(Có rất nhiều người vô gia cư trên đường Nguyễn Huệ.)
There are not (there aren't) + danh từ số nhiều (plural nouns) + trạng từ (nếu có)
There aren't many animals in the zoo.
(Không có nhiều động vật trong sở thú.)
- Are there any + danh từ số nhiều (plural nouns) + trạng ngữ (nếu có)?
Ex: Are there any eggs in the kitchen?
(Trong bếp có trứng không?)
Are there any problems need solved?
(Có vấn đề nào cần giải quyết không?)
CHÚ Ý:
Nếu danh từ đầu tiên của chuỗi liệt kê là danh từ số ít thì ta dùng cấu trúc ‘There is’

Ex: There is a pen, a ruler and a book on the table.

(Có một cái bút, một cái thước kẻ và một quyển sách trên bàn)

Khi danh từ của chuỗi liệt kê bắt đầu bằng danh từ số nhiều thì dùng cấu trúc ‘There are’
Ex: There are two oranges, four bananas and a cake in the fridge.

(Có 2 quả cam, 4 quả chuối và 1 cái bánh trong tủ lạnh)

Cách thành lập cụm danh từ số ít
(A/ an) + tính từ + danh từ
Ví dụ: A small girl/ an orange ball.
Cách thành lập cụm danh từ số nhiều:
Số lượng/ Đại từ chỉ lượng + tính từ + danh từ
Ví dụ: Ten small balls, two pretty girl, some orange balls
