CASE STORY TITLE: The Children of Sitio Mabolon

Conflict Identification

The children of Sitio Mabolon are very sick because of Malnutrition, mainly having the diseases
kwashiokor and marasmus. Both of these illnesses malform the child and make terrible pain for
the children. Because the Sitio I also old fashioned they are reliant of the local “albularyo” until
their child is near death and that they seem to be ignorant at least or at most unable to help their
children in their afflictions.

Plan of Action

While we aren’t given any plans of action in the excerpt I can propose my own. For one I
personally think that I would ask help from DOH and other government departments of the like
to help in the situation. I would also think that providing rations and at least ways for the people
to farm their own food to avoid them having the malnutrition problem in the first place.

Reflection

Personally this is one of the bigger problems that smaller places and sitios face. This is also
problematic since we are dealing an indigenous group of people who might not be able to attach
themselves to civilisation. I also think that our government should be aware of this problem and
also focus more in helping in this problem since it deals with human life.
