Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the one-way flow

of energy and the cycling of materials in an ecosystem.
Performance The learners should be able to make a poster comparing food
Standard choices based on the trophic levels.
Learning Suggest ways to minimize human impact on the environment
Competency S8LT-IVj-25
I. Objectives At the end of the discussion, the learners are expected to:
a. define human activities that affects the ecosystem;
b. discuss the positive and negative effects of human activities in
ecosystem;
c. appreciate the importance of protecting the ecosystem.

4. Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent in the class? None, ma’am.
5. Recalling of the classroom rules
Before we begin, let us recall what to do in our
classroom. All learners will read.

Thank you, any other answer? ma’am.

Very good.

Everything that surrounds us is part of the

environment. This includes living things like
plants and animals or the biotic factor, and non-
living things or the abiotic factor like beaches and
mountains, the air we breathe, the sunlight that
provides warmth, and the water that we use in our
homes, schools, and businesses.

However, the world we live today is very

different. We are experiencing an increase in
temperature and the landscapes and seas change
drastically. Our environment today ma’am is
already polluted ma’am.
What can you say about the environment today?

Exactly! This is because of climate change.

What do you think is the main reason for this?

It’s because of global warming.
Are there other answers? It’s because of human activities.

D. Explore

To understand our lesson, let’s have an activity. I

will group you into 4.

The classroom has four learning areas. Each of

them offers a different topic that you will observe
and examine. Write down your observation in the
material given.

I will assign each group to a

designated learning area.

Before we do that, let us recall the guidelines in

doing an activity. What is the first step?
Be cooperative.

That’s right. What else?

Show respect to your groupmates.
Don’t disturb other groups.
Follow directions correctly.

Excellent! Let us start the activity.

(Designated learning areas for the groups:)

Group 1 – Area 1
(The students will do the activity.)
Group 2 – Area 2
Group 3 – Area 3
Group 4 – Area 4
(T.L.E Household services and HEALTH
INTEGRATION)
Learning Area 1: Garbage Problem

Directions:
1. Examine the picture.
2. What is the picture about?
3. How can we minimize our waste product?

something else rather than a forest is called
deforestation. Give 3 reasons why people do this.
3. What will happen if we continue
cutting down our trees?
4. What can we do to save the trees?
Learning Area 3: Where are the Animals?

Directions:
1. Examine the pictures.
2. Global warming heavily affects the lives
of animals. Some species have a great decline in
population. Some are already endangered.
Cite one reason why animals are important.
3. Give 3 things that animals can provide

at home.
E. Explain
Let us examine and hear your observations in the
activity.

Each group shall have a designated speaker to

present what they’ve observed in a learning area.
F. Elaborate
Based on the activity, is global warming real or Global warming is real.
not?
Global warming and climate change refer to an
increase in average global temperatures. Natural
events and human activities are believed to be
contributing to an increase in average global
temperatures. This is caused
primarily by increases in “greenhouse gases”.
Greenhouse gases are gases in Earth's
atmosphere that trap heat.
These human activities include the
What are the types of greenhouse gases? burning of fossil fuels such as coal,
oil, gas and peat in factories, the
carbon emissions from car exhausts,
methane and nitrous oxide emissions
from agriculture and the change of
how land is being used for example
deforestation and urbanization.

Human activities contribute a

great amount in the increase of greenhouse
gases.

To lessen our impact on the

environment, we can do several things.
We can save our trees through reforestation and
recycling paper.

Therefore, wise management of natural resources

should be taken into consideration to mitigate the
negative impacts of human activities in the
environment and thus support sustainability, the
prevention of the decreasing of natural

resources to maintain an ecological balance.

Conservation is the careful preservation and
protection of natural resources

Through this, we can also help our animals to

thrive and survive in their environments. let’s
watch a short music video showing the different
effect of human activities to our environment.

minimize the negative impacts of human activities
on the environment by filling in the diagram on
the board.

G. Evaluation

Directions: Choose the letter of the correct

answer. Write the chosen letter on a ¼ sheet of
paper.

will you use to ensure higher crop yield without
damaging the environment? Explain your answer.
