aimed to wards land management

DATA SOURCES, EXTRACTION & PREPROCESSING
DATA COLLECTION AND STORAGE
• Wealth of vector data from surveys undertaken under Normal routine as well as special projects like
Kyapa mu ngalo, Massive surveys as well as ongoing surveys done routinely;
• These are uploaded weekly into a relational database management system running on the cloud, in our
case, PostgreSQL with POST GIS extension.
• The Raster data procured from the Ministry Zonal Offices including deed plans, clipped cadasters
topographic maps, satellite imagery and microfilms or historical maps. These are digitized and stored in
the relational database while the raster data is served as a tiled web map service using Geo server.
• At the branch level, the attribute data for each Kibanja is captured in a variety of forms as well as the
GPS coordinates of the four extreme corners of the Kibanja and submitted with the rest of the
information pertaining to a particular land parcel.
ANSWERING THE QUESTION OF WHERE
SPATIAL ANALYSIS

• Location surveys beyond a buffer of 500 meters from the edge of layers having land under BLB’s jurisdiction done at branch level giving information about
inclusion or exclusion from reserves, wetlands and previously surveyed or titled land.

• Unregistered land on blocks done through difference or union spatial queries between the block layers and the layers containing surveyed land.

• Conformity to standards and regulations as a prerequisite for deed plan processing of Bibanja through spatial overlays with topographic and cadastral maps
procured from Ministry Zonal Offices. To avoid encroachment into planned and surveyed roads, already titled land as well as mapped reserves.

• A check for surveys done with overlays on satellite imagery to curb erroneous surveys and boundary disputes as well as developments being excluded by land
surveys.

• Verification of deed plans before they are recommended to the lease committee or submitted to the clients for conformity to the surveyed information
submitted at the MZOs.

• Customized queries powered by the POST GIS extension; how many people registered with us have titles in Nankulabye below 30 decimals?

• And much more…..
