ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

RULES ;-

1) Subject of Active voice becomes object of Passive voice.


2) Object of Active voice becomes subject of Passive voice.
3) Verb in whatever form it is, takes its Past Participle form. (V3 form).
4) Suitable Helping verb and Preposition ( by ) must be added.

TENSES
1) SIMPLE PRESENT :- Is / am / are
Eg: Martyn mails the letter.
The letter is mailed by Martyn.
2) PRESENT CONTINUOUS :- is / am / are + being.
Eg: Martyn is mailing the letter.
The letter is being mailed by Martyn.
3) PRESENT PERFECT :- has / have + been
Eg: Martyn has mailed the letter.
The letter has been mailed by Martyn.
4) PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS :-
No Passive form.
5) SIMPLE PAST :- was / were
Eg: Martyn mailed the letter.
The letter was mailed by Martyn.
6) PAST CONTINUOUS :- was / were + being.
Eg: Martyn was mailing the letter.
The letter was being mailed by Martyn.
7) PAST PERFECT :- had + been
Eg: Martyn had mailed the letter.
The letter had been mailed by Martyn.
8) PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS :-
No Passive form.
9) SIMPLE FUTURE :- will / shall + be
Eg: Martyn will mail the letter.
The letter will be mailed by Martyn.
10)FUTURE CONTINUOUS :-
No passive form.
11)FUTURE PERFECT:- will / shall + have been
Eg: Martyn will have mailed the letter.
The letter will have been mailed by Martyn.
12)FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS :-
No passive form.

TWO OBJECTS

1) John teaches us English.


English is taught to us by John.
We are taught English by John.
2) She has offered me a cool drink.
A cool drink has been offered to me by her.
I have been offered a cool drink by her.
3) The manager will give you a ticket.
A ticket will be given to you by the manager.
You will be given a ticket by the manager.
4) Ravi presented me a gift.
A gift was presented to me by Ravi.
I was presented a gift by Ravi.

IMPERATIVE SENTENCES

Let + Obj + be + V3
Let + Obj + not + be + V3

1) Carry it home.
Let it be carried home.
2) Do it at once.
Let it be done at once.
3) Do not touch it.
Let it not be touched.
4) Do not beat the dog.
Let the dog not be beaten.
5) Help the poor.
Let the poor be helped.
You are requested to help the poor.
6) Learn the poem.
You are requested to learn the poem.
Let the poem be learnt.
7) Work hard.
You are requested to work hard.
8) Get out.
You are ordered to get out.

INTERROGATIVE

Changes
1) Do / Does -> Is / am / are
2) Did -> Was / were
3) Have -> Has
4) Who -> By whom
 Will, Shall, Can, How, What, When, Where -> Do not change.
