COP 27-Sharm EL Sheikh LM6000 PC Demo Test

Hydrogen supply scope

1. Back Ground:
Sharm EL Sheikh Site located in Shram el Sheikh City in Sinai Peninsula in the eastern
side of Egypt, has (6) LM 6000 PC GE Aeroderivative gas turbine.

As hydrogen burning is one of the alternatives for decreasing carbon footprint from
existing gas engines fleets. GE is planning to burn a percentage of H2 blended to
Natural gas in one of these LM6000 PC machine in a short demonstrative test.

GE is proposing this to Ministry of Electricity and Renewable energy to show engine

capability and as part of GE intent to collaborate with Customers while developing
feasible decarbonization plans.

2. Scope
Hydrogen that will be used in this test shall be supplied from high pressure stored H2,
from bottles or tubes , these stored hydrogen shall be transported to the site to support
commissioning and testing activities. The scope can be summarized as follows

A. H2 bottles or tubes with the quantity required for supporting the commissioning
and test activity with H2 blend.
B. Filling and transportation of H2 to site in a pace that support the commissioning
and testing schedule. The vendor shall acquire all permits required.
 The quotation shall include a filling and transportation plan to support
the activities
C. Pressure regulator station that regulate the pressure of H2 to the 60 bar
required pressure at the interface with the blending skid of the GT.
D. Engineering , material supply and construction of the piping system from the
storage area to the GT blending skid.
E. All engineering required for
 Choosing the location of the H2 area at site
 HAZOP and accident review studies
 Developing HAZ map area
 Pressure regulator sizing and control
 FMEA review

Quotation shall be provided for minimum 7 000 Nm3

 Bottles or tubes shall be provided with capacities required to support this

operation schemes
 Quotation shall include transportation to the site
 Quotation shall include H2 supply filling and transportation plan to support the
activities

2.2. Pressure regulator

Pressure regulator system shall be provided to regulate pressure during the operation
following shall be the minimum cases considered in sizing

Minimum pressure Maximum pressure Minimum CV opening

Upstream pressure, Bar 70 * Maximum pressure
Downstream pressure Bar 60 60 60
Flow NM3/Hr 600 600 60
H2 temperature , C 25 25 25
Material Stainless steel Stainless steel Stainless steel
*maximum pressure to be filled by vendor
Pressure regulator system shall include but not limited to the following:
 Regulators shall be computer controlled with sperate control panel/work station
 Pilot operated pressure regulators is recommended
 The regulation shall be a with two stages regulating system
 Ball valves are required for skid isolation

3
 Shutoff valve to close the supply when downstream supply exceed predetermined
levels, equipped With emergency stop button
 Thermal relief and safety relief valves
 Pressure transmitters To monitor upstream and downstream pressure.

2.3. Piping system
 Piping system shall be 316 SS
 Pipe diameters shall be selected with 100% margin
 Pipe schedule to be selected based on working pressure and safety
requirements
 Buffer volume may be considered to decouple unsteady storage supply
fluctuations from the final H2 supply to engine

2.4. Safety studies and related procedures

This shall include in proposed scope

1-Safety review of the system including HAZOP studies , accident scenario review
and all safety associated reviews.
2- Generating new HAZ maps for the proposed scope.
3-Developing detailed safety procedure and guidelines for the process of receiving
compressed hydrogen , connecting it to the supply system and managing the H2
blending, the procedure shall include prerequisites and check lists.

3. References and assumption
