LESSON 3

ORAL
COMMUNICATION

with
Teacher Orquia
GREETINGS,
STUDENTS!
TODAY'S Communication is a two-
way process and is an art,

CLASS RECAP
a process, a science, and a
technique.

It involves a Speaker imparting ideas,

concepts, and data to a group of
Listeners or audience.

It is also symbolic because it involves

not only words but also symbols and
gestures that accompany the spoken
words because symbolic action is not
limited to verbal communication
TODAY'S CLASS RECAP
You also gained an understanding of the Elements and
Process of Communications

In the process of communication, at least 2 persons are

required: Sender and Receiver. It begins when a sender
wishes to share some idea, facts, information or opinion
to the receiver. The message is developed by the sender
and he/she will encode the message or think of ways of
telling it to the receiver through sensory route.
In encoding, you need to know if you want the receiver to read, listen, or feel
the message. The sender decides the channel of communication and conveys
the idea. The idea is received by the receiver, and after decoding or
understanding what the idea is about, the receiver will give feedback to the
sender. Take a look at the diagram of communication process below. Analyze
how the process works.
You might wonder, what is noise? Is that also an element?
The answer is YES.

And, we also have another element called "communicative

situation"

But don't panic class. Noise is just a barrier to

communication. It only prevents the receiver from fully
comprehending the message. For example, in a classroom
setting, when the teacher is explaining the lesson but one of
your classmates is distracting you. As a result, you really did
not understand the lesson.
Are there different types of Noises in
Communication?

Yes! There are three types of noises in communication

namely:
Physical or Loud Noise (shouting, talking, engine sound)
Physiological Noise - It is not the literal noise but it's
about the condition of your body (hungry, ill, feeling
cold or hot) You cannot understand someone if you have
a fever, right?'
Psychological Noise - The noise is coming from your
head. Like, you are worrying about money while you are
talking to someone. Maybe you are daydreaming, or
mind is not present while talking or listening.
Ma'am, what about the "communicative situation"?

Communicative Situation is only a situation and where the

communication is taking place. It has 2 components.

Physical Locations - it is a chosen place for its purpose like

CLASSROOM for TEACHING, GYMNASIUM for SPORTS and
GARDEN for planting FLOWERS.
Psychological Setting - it depends on the participants.
For instance, the school principal will use the Gymnasium for
Student's Orientation, but gymnasium should only be for sports
events.

Another example is your friends decided to have a gathering in

the garden, but the garden should only be for viewing and
appreciating the flowers.
