NARRATIVE REPORT ON THE

NATIONAL READING MONTH
As stipulated in the DepEd Memorandum No. 389, 2022 Pambansang Buwan

at Araw ng Pagbasa, all schools are enjoined to conduct activities to celebrate the
importance of reading.
In line with this, a school-level kick-off ceremony happened in Lamao National High
School.

Reading Month.

In addition to this, a small talk about the importance of reading was also delivered to
encourage the learners to love reading.
Sir Bingo B. Dela Cruz, having a small talk with the students in the importance of reading.
Moreover, Lamao NHS also participated in the nationwide synchronized reading time
last November 28, 2022 at 09:00 AM. All teaching and non-teaching personnel participated
in the said program.

POSTER MAKING
Another accomplishment of the department during 2022 Pambansang Buwan at
Araw ng Pagbasa was poster making. The aim of this activity is to show the message of the
story listened by the students. The title of the story read by the teachers is “The White
Squash”, a Filipino Folktale, and it was done last November 11, 2022.

ARAW NG PAGBASA CHALLENGE

On November 28, 2022 at exactly 9:00 am, the learners, teaching, and non-teaching
personnel of the institution participated in the nationwide synchronized reading. After the
challenge, the teachers also gave the learners a Reading Challenge Log to write the title and
author of the text they have read including their answers to the question given by the
teacher.

Pambansang Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa 2022
I. TITLE
Reading Pantry/Reading Challenge Log/Share-A-Story
II.DATE
November to December 2022
III.PLATFORM
Announcement of activities was done during the flag
ceremony.
Before the class begins, the teacher gave a hard copy of
the Reading Challenge Log to learners and instructed them
to visit the Reading Pantry to read books after class.
IV.AGENDA
The Department of Education is committed to
ensure improved reading performance as one of the
priorities in the Learning Recovery Plan.
DepEd, through the Bureau of Learning Delivery

(BLD), spearheaded the nationwide celebration of the
2022 Pambasang Buwan ng Pagbasa (PBAP) this
November to promote love for reading among learners and
instill full awareness and understanding on the role of
reading among learners in cultivating critical thinking
among our learners.
Reading is necessary for learning, so instilling a love

of reading at an early age is the key that unlocks the door
to lifelong learning. Therefore, in support of this
undertaking, Lamao National High School English teachers
facilitated various activities to help learners improve their
reading ability, enourage learners to develop a better
reading habit to become an independent reader; likewise,
promote a culture of reading not only in school but also at
home.

One of the activities implemented is the Reading

Pantry/ Reading Challenge Log. After class hours, learners
were instructed to visit the Reading Pantry in school and
spend atleast 15-30 minutes in reading variety of books in
the pantry. Afterwhich, they were tasked to fill out the
Reading Challenge Log with the information such as Title
of the Book/Passage, Author, and Learning Insights they
gained from reading.
In relation to the Reading Challenge Log, learners

were also asked to share a story before each class begins.
Each day, one to two learners were assigned to share the
story they read and the lessons they gained from reading
the literary genre.
Aside from utilizing the Reading Pantry, learners

were also instructed to read books at home to accomplish
at least 15 reading challenge for the entire month.
The said activities were successfully accomplished

under the supervision of Head Teacher III in English, Mrs.
Merriam S. Gregorio, with the English teachers including
Mrs. Divine Grace G. Dela Rosa, Mrs. Marissa S. Lunca,
Mrs. Ronalie V. Ramos, Mrs. Ma. Roxan B. Tabamo, Mrs.
Niljoy S. Ramos, Mr. Bingo Dela Cruz and Mr. Marvin B.
Hernandez.
National Reading Month is an annual celebration

that aims to promote love for reading among learners,
enhance and improve reading and comprehension skills of
the learners and develop full awareness and understanding
on the role of reading in cultivating critical thinking among
our learners to become functionally literate.
V.AGREEMENT/WAYS FORWARD Learners were instructed to complete the Reading

Challenge Log and submit it to respective English teachers.
They were also asked to Share-a-Story to the class based

to spend some quality time in reading books to accomplish
their Reading Challenge Log.
It’s a great opportunity given to

students to do the task, “Share-a-
Story”, from what they’ve read and

potential as storyteller and boost their
confidence while instilling the love for
reading.
