Teaching Date September 4-8, 2023 Time Allotment:
2 Hours

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of Factors of
Polynomial.
B. Performance Standard: The learner is able to formulate real life problems involving Factors of
Polynomial.
C. Learning M8AL-Ia-b-1
Competency/Objective
Specific Objective:

To factor Polynomials whose terms, have Common Monomial Factor.

D. Mathematics Processes: Computing & analyzing

E. Value Focus: Developing awareness on the importance of concepts of Special
Products, Laws of Exponents and Multiplying Polynomials.
II. CONTENT Factorization – is the process of writing polynomials as a product of
polynomials. Factoring polynomials is the reverse of finding the products of
polynomials. Unless otherwise indicated, the factors are polynomials with
integral coefficient. A polynomial is said to be factored into prime factors if it
is expressed as the product of two or more irreducible polynomials of the
same type.

COMMON MONOMIAL FACTORING

1. Look for the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the terms of the
polynomial.
2. Divide the given polynomial by the GCF to get the other factor.
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. Materials: Laptop, television, chalk

B. References: Interactive Mathematics 8 p. 19-21

IV. PROCEDURES
Solve the following
1. 10 + 5 = ?
2. – 6 + (-3) = ?
DRILL
3. 21- 4 =?
4. – 10 – 6 =?
5. (5)(4) = ?
Complete the words!
Direction: Answer the following questions.
1. What is the greatest common factor of 6 and 15?
MOTIVATION 2. What is the greatest common factor of 15 and 20?
3. What is the greatest common factor of 6a and 18ab?
4. What is the greatest common factor of 10 ab∧12 a2b?
5. What is the greatest common factor of 8 ab 2∧10 a2b2?

PRESENTATION
Common monomial factoring- is the process of writing a polynomial as a
product two polynomials, one which is a monomial that factors each term of
the polynomial. To ensure that the polynomial is the prime polynomial, use the
greatest common factor.

COMMON MONOMIAL FACTORING

1. Look for the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the terms of the
polynomial.
2. Divide the given polynomial by the GCF to get the other factor.
ACTIVITY
Match it to me!
Direction: Match the polynomial in column A to its factors in column B.

A B
1. 3x2 + 6x a. 2(x2-1)
2. 2x2-2 b. 4x2 (x-4)
3. 4x3 - 16x2 c. 3x (x+2)

ANALYSIS Discussing the answer on their activity.

ABSTRACTION  How do you factor polynomials with common monomial factors?

APPLICATION CAPTION GAME
