1.0 INTRODUCTION

This project is for construction of Construction of Field Gas Gathering Station


(FGGS) Package 3 BOP-Mechanical, Piping & Field Instrumentation at FGGS
Baghjan, Assam.

PURPOSE & SCOPE

This document is issued to establish a uniform procedure for erection and


alignment of static equipment’s at FGGS Project site

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY

2.1 RCM- MECHANICAL


RCM shall report to project manager to full fill the project specification
requirements; He shall be responsible for implementation of this procedure during
project execution; He shall be also responsible for providing adequate resources for
execution of work.

2.2 MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Primary responsibility of Mechanical engineer shall be verification of all the


materials confirming to the fabrication drawings / standard drawings; He shall be
responsible for preparing lifting plan, & surveillance of all mechanical activities
including lifting and installation of equipment’s, Transportation/Shifting of
equipment within the site, carrying out Alignment of static equipment’s and
keeping records

4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

All necessary handling equipment’s, tools, tackles and precision instruments


for carrying out the works as specified shall be in good condition; also all tools
and gauges for erection and alignment shall be made available at site with valid
calibration reports

Equipment manufacturer’s recommendations regarding preservation during


storage at site, layout drawings, GAD, nozzle orientation drawings, etc. shall
be strictly followed.

4.1 Precautions for Installation

4.1.1 Where equipment is roped for lifting, pads shall be applied on the corners,
finished surfaces, etc. of the equipment for preventing damage resulting
from wire ropes.

4.1.2 Construction equipment, machines, tools and measuring instruments to be


used in the works shall be thoroughly inspected and certified by competent
authority prior to use.
4.1.3 Where the use of fire is prohibited, flame-free tools and devices shall be
prepared.

4.1.4 When lifting up or down the equipment by the use of a sling, due care shall
be taken to its location and centre of gravity in order to avoid unbalancing of
the equipment. Sling points of the equipment, if specified by manufacturer,
shall be complied with. It shall be determined after careful examination and
shall be distinctly marked in order to avoid injuries to the workmen.
Erection scheme to be submitted to PMC for all Equipment (above 10 Mt)
erection for approval.

4.2.1 During heavy equipment installation, a special crew shall be organized.


4.2.2 The crew shall comprise of a general supervisor, signal/flag man, hoist
operator, crane operator, rigger, safety supervisor, etc.
4.2.3 The function of each individual of the crew shall be clearly defined.

5. UNLOADING AND TRANSPORTATION

5.1 Unloading

5.1.1 For the heavy weight equipment, an unloading method procedure shall be
determined on investigating items, and an unloading plan shall be made out
prior to the work.

i) Size, weight and shape of the equipment.


ii) Unloading facilities of the jetty.
iii) Time of sunrise and sunset.
iv) Conditions of the ground at unloading point.

5.1.2 The ground at the unloading point, if it is not firm, shall be thoroughly
reinforced in order to prevent the equipment from overturning etc.
5.1.3 Prior to unloading, the orientation and position of the equipment after
unloading shall be confirmed in relation to the direction of installation.

5.2 Transportation

5.2.1 For the transportation of the heavy weight equipment after unloading, a
transportation method procedure shall be determined on investigating the
following terms, and transportation plan shall be made out prior to work
commencement.
i) Size, weight and shape of the equipment
ii) Maximum allowable loads for roads, bridges, etc. existing in
transportation route.
iii) Width, unevenness and crook of the transportation route.
iv) Buildings, aerial wrings, overhead girders electric poles, underground
facilities and buried objects etc. existing in the transportation routes.
v) Whether or not temporary road is necessary.

5.2.2 Where required proper reinforcements, removals or protections shall be


done to the roads, underground facilities and buried objects, or existing
structures around the transportation route to prevent them from damage.

And such temporary measures shall be promptly restored to their original


conditions after the works have been completed.
5.2.3 In the field, the equipment shall be temporarily placed at the points shown
in the transportation plan.
5.2.4 Skids for the transporting and temporary placing shall be made suitable for
the equipment so as not to allow permanent distortion.

6. CUSTODY OF EQUIPMENT

6.1 Unpacking

6.1.1 Upon arrival of the equipment in the field, the number and external
appearance of packing shall be checked against the packing list.
6.1.2 After unpacking the specification of the equipment such dimensions and
weight, quantity shall be checked against the packing list, purchase order
and / or invoice. Whether or not there is anything defective in appearance
such as rest, flaw or distortion shall be checked.
6.1.3 Government certification stamp, if required, shall be confirmed.
6.1.4 Centre markings, orientation markings of centre of gravity and sling point
markings if used, shall be checked according to the drawings

6.2 Safekeeping

6.2.1 The safekeeping shall refer to the storage instructions given on the shipping
documents of each individual item. These instructions shall overrule the
general guidelines in this paragraph.
6.2.2 The place and method of safekeeping until the installation shall be
determined by taking the following items, into consideration.
i) Types of the equipment, parts accessories and spare parts, if any.
ii) Property of material used and finished surface.
iii) Period of storing (temporary placing) and weather conditions.
iv) Environmental conditions, such as whether or not dust, sand or soil,
corrosive gas etc. exits.

6.2.3 Cleaning, anti-corrosive treatment or sealing, if necessary, shall be made,


where inspection is required for the insides of the equipment such as
vessels, manhole covers shall be opened after taking necessary measures
such as confirmation of air supply.

7. LIFTING MEHTOD

7.1 General

7.1.1 The following items shall be considered for the determination of a lifting
method and the erection of lifting equipment’s.

i) Size weight and shape of the equipment to be installed and the slinging
points.
ii) Space in installing location
iii) Space & ground condition of erection point of the lifting equipment.
iv) Building, structures, equipment, etc. existing nearby and whether or not
those can be used without damaging or overstressing the same.
v) Buried objects such as underground piping and cables, and open
trenches, existing in the place where the equipment is erected.
vi) Operating condition of existing plants facilities and equipment.
vii) Condition of roads as to whether or not they can be used.
viii) Existing lifting equipment and whether or not it can be utilized.
ix) Space of dismantling or taking out of the lifting equipment.
x) Performance & maintenance condition of the lifting equipment.

7.1.2 For the heavy weight equipment, the installation manual including
specification of the lifting equipment, routing & method for taking in of the
equipment from temporary place, the direction and sequence of installation,
etc. shall be made out before starting the works.
7.1.3 The rigging/Lifting plan/erection scheme for approval of heavy
equipment’s shall be submitted to OIL PMC before starting the works for
approval.

8. PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION

8.1 Measuring Instruments & Tools.

All necessary tools such as Theodolite, Dumpy level, Master level etc. will be
made available at site. Proper calibration records for these will be maintained.

8.2 Foundation

8.2.1 Equipment foundation shall be checked for the following items :

i) Period of maturing of foundation concrete.

ii) Dimension
iii) Position (centre marking) and height (level marking)
iv) Disorders in the foundation concrete, such as honeycombing.
v) No of bolts, bolt circle diameter, size of anchor bolts, and damage or rust
of threaded parts.

8.2.2 Treatment for the surface of the foundation, such as chipping and fitting,
shall be carried out as follows :

i) Foreign matters are to be completely removed & surface shall be


thoroughly cleaned.
ii) Portions which come in contact with liners are chipped and fitted to be in
line with the liners.
iii) Surface, if grouting is to be done after centering, is chipped and then
cleaned completely with compressed air, etc. so as to give good
adherence and avoid cracking, peeling-off, etc. of grouting mortar.

8.3 Liners / Packing Plates

8.3.1 Liners to be used shall be in general, made of carbon steel.


8.3.2 Liners shall be so arranged that the load of equipment is uniformly and
exactly distributed to the foundation within allowable load. In general, the
liners shall be placed as near as possible to both side of each anchor bolt.
8.3.3 In case where only flat liners are used for alignment, these flat liners shall
be piled in layers.
8.3.4 Oil & other foreign matters stuck on surface of liners shall be entirely
removed.

8.4 Equipment

8.4.1 Prior to the installation, the following checks of the equipment shall be
made

i) Appearance of equipment, such as absence of damage and rust.


ii) The number and appearance of auxiliaries.
iii) Size of the anchor bolts, damage and rust on the threaded parts.
iv) Orientation marking
v) Marking of centre of gravity/ centre line.

8.4.2 Oil and other foreign matters stuck on the surfaces of legs, bed, frame etc.
which will be in contact to grouting shall be entirely removed.

9. INSTALLATION

9.1 Setting

9.1.1 Setting of the equipment on the foundation shall be performed as per


vendor’s recommendations.
9.1.2 Placing of the equipment shall be carried out as follows

i) Liners shall be set so that the top levels of these liners come slightly
lower than the specified installation height thus allowing later
adjustment.
ii) Equipment shall be lowered slowly with chain block, jacks, etc. keeping
it horizontal.
iii) In case of anchor box type, the anchor bolts shall be set to the legs of the
equipment after stabilization of the lowered equipment has been
obtained.
iv) All anchor bolts shall be tightened completely and uniformly.

9.1.3 Centering (or alignment) shall conform of engineering specification


corresponding to each equipment installation work, where specification
covers the requirement for diameter of vessels, columns etc.
9.1.4 Vertical vessels/columns/reactors shall be checked using appropriate
instruments for verticality. Tightening of anchor bolts shall be done
thereafter.

Where the liners are used in multilayers, they shall be intermittently welded
to each other after completion of centering (or alignment) of the equipment.

9.1.5 In Case of anchor box type, fixing of the anchor bolts shall be carried out
as follows :

i) Anchor bolts shall be set so that a few screw threads come out from the
nut.
ii) When mortar is being poured into the anchor boxes, all foreign matters
shall be removed, the mortar shall be poured with spading and
tamped by rod. Threaded parts shall be properly covered to prevent from
sticking to them.
iii) All anchor bolts shall be tightened completely and uniformly after
sufficient solidification of the mortar has been obtained.

9.1.6 Tolerances for equipment after erection shall be as per approved drawing /
equipment Data sheet/ OEM recommendations

10. INSPECTION, TESTING & DOCUMENTATION :

Inspection, testing, Alignment and other records shall be carried out and
records shall be maintained as per following formats
