GLOBALIZATION
Is the intensification of worldwide socilal relations
which link distant localities in such a way that local
happenings are shaped by events occurring many
miles away and vice versa.
The interconnectedness of human beings,
technology, seems to be the common understanding
if globalization.
Globalization refers to both the compression of the
world and the intensification of consciousness of
the world as a whole. (Robertson, 1992:8)
Globalization made the world smaller
Harvey (1989( introduced globalization as the
compression of time and space and the anhilitation
of distance.
It is a process of interaction and integration among
the people, companiesm and governments of
different nations, a process driven by international
trade and investment and aided by information

It can have a positive and negative impact, other
countries benefit from us and we benefit from other
countries.

social relations in terms of increasing the flow of
goods, services, capital, and ideas. Globalization

barriers to commerce or exchange goods and

market that is based on supply and demand,
with little or no government control.
In terms of modernization naman po, it is
about technological advancement and the
adoption of western models of governance,
institutions, and consumer culture.
 if globalization is viewed as a process,
which denotes happening over a stretch of
time, we can trace its beginning. when did
globalization start?
I cannot give a specific date but I think
globalization started the moment our
ancestors established trading, cultural
exchanges, and migration po. Another one
related to our country po is when we are
colonized by different colonizers, we started
to adapt their ways and cultures po.
Many scholars say it started with Colunbus’s
voyage to the New World in 1942.
People traveled to the nearby and faraway places
before Columbus’s voyage, however, exchanging,
their idead, and customs along the way.
“First globalization” is a phrase used by economists
to describe the world’s first major period of
globalization of trade and finance, which took place
between 1870 and 1914
The “second globalization” begain in 1944 and
ended in 1971. This led to the third era of
globalization in 1989 and continues today.
Since yung mga sinaunang tao po, they like to
travel and explore different places and countries
by the sea, I think Columbus get to meet
different people from different countries or
places to exchange goods, services or ideas po.
That’s when Globalization was discovered.
The first globalization was deeply related in the
integration of financial markets I think in terms
of international capital flows where an
individual can put or invest capital not only
within one border.
The second globalization naman po is where
Bretton Woods System was created and one of its
content po is having an fixed exchange rates
which is the currency US dollar.
When did globalization begin in the Philippines?
By 1610, a hybrid system of early modern power
had unified hundreds of these villages into a
blended network of colonial authority.
Their transformative process marked both the
beginning of the modern Philippine nation and also
the completion of the birth of globalization.
1610 po, the period where Philippines served as a
trading hub within the Spanish colonial empire.
Manila po was the capital and main port. The
manila galleons or the Spanish ship vessels po
transported different goods and merchandise.
Through this po exchange of goods and ideas po
was done and this is why Philippines became a
global trade networks po. (paths by which trade can
take place.)

1.Globalization is Not a New, Western Concept
When ancient Indian scriptures mentioned
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, they had already
viewed the world as a small globe village of linked
familes.
When our grandmother started her stories with “saat
samundar paar”, she also meant that we are not
alone in this universe, and the world is cohabited by
others too at far off places.
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” when we translate it
po, it means “the world is one family”. So it means
kahit noon pa po, they have predicted the
globalization. They view the world as family so it
means countries are not totally different from one
another, it is linked, it is connected.
And by “saat samundar paar” naman po is like no
man is an island, there will always be another being
which we can interact with.

And these two scriptures are Indian scriptures, not
western.
2.It is basically a “mindset”
Usually, Globalization is seen as another economic
theory to enhance business and trade.
It must be understood that Globalization os
basically a mindset that is ready to encapsulate the
whole universe into its scheme of things; a mindset
that is broader & open to receive all ideas; that takes
the whole globe as an area of operation.
It is a mindset that is not limited. It is broad and
open, hindi lang nakakulong sa isang bansa, it is a
worldview, holistic po kumbaga. Open for global
interactions and connections.
3.Globalization is an opportunity
It is often feared that the implementation of
Globalization will open up our domestic economy
for foreign competition, thereby endangering
economic progress and survival of local firms.
While it does open our markets for entry of
multinationals, it also opens all other markets in the
whole world for our products and services too.
Globalization involves taking risk po, its like if you
keep on staying on your comfort-zone, you’ll not
grow and learn. You’re not going to gain
experiences and many more. Globalization is feared
because it puts local firms at risks (DAHIL SA BIG
COMPETITION WITH FOREIGN COMPANIES)
but being open worldwide also gives a lot and
opportunity like sa exportation and importing of
products po. We give and take.
- Countries fear global competition where
those less competitive on a global scale
could suffer job losses dahil pwede pong
mas mag invest ang mga investors sa mga
foreign companies po. Mas lumalawak po
talaga ang competition.
4.Globalization means “interdependnce”
We have all grown reading history wherein either a
country is independent or a slave of another
country.
With the advent of Globalization, it has been
understood that no country can be said independent,
not needing anything from any other country.
Hence, a culture of interdependence has been
established between nations.
It is stated that no country is independent, not
needing anything from another country because no
country is 100% perfect, no country has it all. A
country will always need help from another country.
Countries rely on one another to grow and learn.
5.Globalization means “Caring and Sharing”
The world today is more united and concerned
about common problems being faced by the people-
be it global warming, terrorism, or malnutrition etc.
natural disasters faced or atrocities encountered at
any part of the world attract immediate attention all
over.
Just like what is said in number 4, countries rely on
one another. We’re all facing common global issues
and it requires collaboration and collective action
from different countries to resolve those mentioned
problems.
6. Globalization puts Technology in Service of
Mankind
The world today is more united and concerned

7.Globalization is Inevitable & Irreversible
There have been attempts by fundamental forces all
over the world to oppose and stop the process of
Globalization over past quarter century.
Despite the differences in political ideologies, the
ruling parties have gone ahead with the
implementation of Globalization policies.
It is rightly said, “you can not stop the advent of an
idea whose time has come. Globalization is one
such idea.
Just like what is said earlier, globalization is feared
because of different local reasons but the truth is we
cannot stop the advancement of communication,
technology, and transportation because the world is
revolving. Just like modernization, we cannot stop
or reverse globalixation.
8. Globalization has Linked Politics with
Economics
Political ideologies and relations between nations
have determined the fate of the people over
centuries; with economics being subservient to
politics.
However, in the new era, it is the economics,
employment generation and public welfare that
undermine the need and strength of relations
between nations.
Gaya po sa ASEAN, leaders of different countries
po are the one who participates in meetings to
discuss issues and make decisions po for the
betterment of each country’s economy.
9.Globalization means Raised Standards of
Living
With consumers having more choice to pick quality
items at right price, and with no boundary
restrictions on flow of goods and services, the
markets have turned from “sellers market” to
“buyers market”
This has helped in raising the standard of living for
vast populations across the world.
It has also raised aspirations among billions of
people to upgrade their lifestyle.
Globalization have raised standards of living by
providing people with better-quality and wide range
of products because it is not limited, as goods
continue to circulate around different countries.
Because of this, companies also try to innovate,
improve product quality, and offer competitive
prices more to attract customers.
10.Globalization Demands and Respect
Excellence
With global level opportunities available to all the
countries, the field is wide open for the excellent
companies, products and people from any remote
part of the world to showcase their excellence and
win over markets and contracts.
There is pressure on everyone to continuously
improve to meet the raised bar of expectations.
Since globalization can be applied to everyone,
individuals from any part of the world can now
showcase their abilities and compete on a global
scale. Every one has their own equal opportunity to
compete and get recognized by their excellence, not
only big companies can win over markets and
contracts.

concept and practices of globalization will help us
in improving our lives and productivity

is spurred by innovations in transportation and

if we try to look deeply on how it affects the world
as a whole, how it connects people from different
parts of the world, how it brings convenient to
people, and how it made our world modenized.
Globalization is considered a process because it
involves a series of connection and continuous
development over time. Patuloy na nagiimprove and
nagdedevelop sa in terms of communication,
trading, technology, and transportation.
If it is a process kung saan po patuloy syang
nagdedevelop, it is also a condition din po kasi it
represent the current state of interconnectedness,
economic integration, technological advancements,
and shared global challenges that characterize our
world today.

Global economy refers to the interconnected
worldwide economic activities that take place
between multiple countries.
These economic activities can have either a positive
or negative impact on the countries involved.

resources they want, whether or not it is produced
on the home front.
