Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
A. Reviewing the previous lesson or
presenting the new lesson

Good morning, class.

Good morning, Sir.
Stand up. Lead the prayer, Mae.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit…
Before you take your seat kindly pick-up the pieces
of dirt under your chairs and arrange your chairs
properly.

Take your seats, class.

Thank you, Sir.
Secretary kindly check the attendance. Who are the
absentees for this day?
None, Sir.
Last meeting, we discussed about function. What is
that again all about, Ariane?
Function is a relation in which, for each
value of the first component of the ordered
pairs, there is exactly one value of the
second component.
That is right, Ariane.
Is there any clarification about our last topic?
None, Sir
Now we are going to proceed to the next topic. But
before that, let us have a simple activity. Let us
group ourselves into three. Let us count from left to
right.
The students forming their groups
Are we done counting?
Yes, Sir.
On our activity, every group will be given pictures to
arrange and solve. And then after forming the
pictures every group shall explain the pictures. This
will be done in 10 minutes.

Are we done class?

Yes, Sir.

The first group will present their work.

We notice that it is an inverted image from

Ok very good from the first group. How about the the egg white to the egg yolk.
second group?
The second group will present their work.

We notice that it is an inverted image of the

ice cream.
Ok very good from the second group. How about the
third group?
The third group will present their work.

We noticed that in the first image that the

cat is eating the fish and then in the second
picture the fish is eating the cat.

Ok very good from the last group. Let us clap our

hand for all the groups.
B. Establishing the purpose of the lesson
Today’s lesson we aim to:
 define function;
 determine whether the function is a one to
one; and
 solve equation of the inverse function.

C. Presenting examples/ instances for the

new lesson

Based on what have done a while ago, what have

you notice in our activity for this day, yes Karen? Our activity is all about the inverted image of
two pictures.

Okay, correct, Karen. It is all about the inverse or

inverted images.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills 1

Today we will discuss about the inverse function of

one-to-one function. But before that anyone have an
idea about what is a one-to-one function is,
Angeline? In one-to-one function, each x-values
corresponds to only one y-values and each
y-values correspond to only one x-values.

Very good, Angeline. How about inverse function of

one-to-one function, Carlo? The inverse function of one-to-one function
f, written f-1, is the set of all ordered pairs of
form (y, x), where (x, y) belongs to f. Since
the inverse is formed by interchanging x and
y, the domain of f become the range of f -1
and the range of f becomes the domain of f -
1
.

For inverse f and f-1 it follows that

(f o f-1) (x) = x and (f-1 o f)(x) = x

Example:

F = {(-2, 1), (-1,0), (0, 1)}

The inverse of F is.

F-1 = {(1, -2), (0, -1), (1, 0)}

Finding the equation of the inverse of y=f(x) for a

one-to-one function f defined by an equation y=f(x).

Find the defining equation of the inverse as follows.

STEP 1: Interchange x and y.
STEP 2: Solve for y.
STEP 3: Replace y and write f-1 (x).

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills 2.

Since we already know the steps in dividing the

equation of the inverse function. Let us to solve this.

Example 1: Find the equation that defines the

inverse.
a) f(x)= 2x + 5
b) f(x)= x - 2
c) f(x)= x² + 4

Who wants to solve for letter a, Rose? f(x)= 2x + 5

y = 2x + 5
x = 2y + 5
2y = x - 5
y = (x - 5)/2
f-1= (x - 5)/2

Very Good, Rose. Who wants to solve for letter b, f(x)= x - 2

Jencen? y=x-2
x=y-2
y=x+2
f-1= x + 2

Very Good, Jencen. Who wants to solve for letter c, f(x)= x² + 4

Michael? y = x² + 4
x = y² + 4
y = √ (x² + 4)
f-1= √(x² + 4)

Very Good, Michael.

F. Developing Mastery

Let us try to solve this. Find the inverse function of

the following.
1. f(x)= 2x + 10
2. f(x)= x² + 8
3. f(x) = 2x³

Who wants to try to answer number 1, Lea? f(x)= 2x + 10

y = 2x + 10
x = 2y + 10
2y = x - 10
y = (x - 10)/2
f-1= x/2 - 5

Correct, Lea. Who wants to try to answer number 2,

Ariane? f(x)= x² + 8
y = x² + 8
x = y² + 8
y = √(x² + 8)
f-1= √(x² + 8)

Correct, Ariane. Who wants to try to answer number f(x)= 2x³

1, JM? y = 2x³
x = 2y³
y³ = x/2
y = ³√(x/2)
f-1= ³√(x/2)

Correct, JM.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts

and skills in daily living

Draw the inverted image of this pictures.

To change a function into an inverse

function we must follow this steps.
STEP 1: Interchange x and y.
To sum up our discussion let us watch this video STEP 2: Solve for y.
presentation. STEP 3: Replace y and write f-1 (x).

H. Making Generalizations and abstractions

about the lesson.

Who can sum up our discussion for this day,

Yvonne?

Okay, very good. How about transforming function

into an inverse function, Marissa?
I. Evaluating Learning

Get one-half crosswise and try to answer this

problem in inverse function. Include your solution.

Find the inverse function of the following.

1. f(x)= 4x + 20
2. f(x)= x² + 1
3. f(x) = 4x³

J. Additional Activities for Application for

Remediation

Function Letter B. Items 1 - 5.
2. Study about Logarithmic Function and
answer activity 19.
