Learning Targets
✓ I can read the sight word “see” and “you”.
✓ I can write the letters Qq/Uu/Xx and tell you their
sounds.
✓ I can practice reading CVC words. This week we
learned about the “en” and “ug” word families.
✓ I can hear the vowels in CVC words! I hope you
liked my vowel flip book!
✓ I can practice writing a sentence using an uppercase
letter, spacing, and an end mark. Ask me about the
Button Quail I learned to draw and the sentence I
wrote! “I see a Button Quail in the grass”.
✓ I can write a narrative story! We are doing our first
narrative story together (modeled writing) and we
chose to write about a fire drill we had! These three
page “books” will come home next week!
✓ I can describe the weather using the following
vocabulary words: weather, temperature,
meteorologist, thermometer, and components. We
are learning how to take responsibility for what we
wear by looking at the weather. Watch the
newscasts and let your kiddo help choose what
clothes would be best depending on the weather.

Science unit on weather!

✓ I can read with my book buddy! Just a reminder that
each Friday our book buddies from Mrs. Rayl’s class
come and read to us! Super fun!
UPCOMING EVENTS
Next week we’ll be learning to write Bb/Oo/Ww and
we’ll be learning the sight words “to”, “do”. We’ll be continuing
in our newest literacy unit on weather and be integrating a lot
of science! This is going to be a super fun topic!
In writing we will finish our first narrative story and
complete our cover pages. As we write we are focusing on the
mechanics of writing and phonetic (sound out) spelling and
ending each sentence with punctuation.
In math we will complete Topic 4 and take our math
test. Like with Topic 3, math tests are the red pages at the
back of your student’s math book, and you can look at those to
see how they did. Those will come home by Friday. We’ll
begin Topic 5 later in the week and learn about counting and
classifying data, including learning about tally marks.
• Halloween Party- Our party will be Oct. 31st from 2:15-3:00. A
school wide parade (around Werner) will begin about 3:00 and
all parents are invited for this fun event. You can see us exit
our outside door. Also, if your child’s costume can be worn to
school (i.e. my costume needs overalls so I’ll be wearing those
on Halloween), they are welcome to do that. Please be mindful
that once costumes are on (we’ll put them on before our party),
they will stay on throughout the end of the day.
