Position Description: Country Manager

Maximo Nivel is a leading educational travel and study abroad organization founded in 2003. Our four
intercultural centers are locally based organizations in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru. Our organization is
focused on study abroad, educational travel, and language programs including: Volunteer Abroad, International
Internships, TEFL Certification, Native Spanish Program, Gap Year, Spanish Camp, and Native English Program.

Our programs are internationally accredited and are recognized worldwide. Our success is based on our
commitment to quality and the highest level of client service.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION


The Country Manager is the lead manager for the entire institute in Costa Rica, Guatemala, or Peru and is
responsible for all teams and all functions including: International Programs, National Programs, Academics, and
Maintenance & Security, as well as scheduling, training, sales, and client service. The Accounting team reports
directly to the ownership team and has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Country Manager.

The Country Manager reports to the Chief Operating Offier (COO) of Maximo Nivel. In Costa Rica, the position is
based in San Jose, CR; in Guatemala, the position is based in Antigua, GT; and in Peru, the position is based in
Cusco, PE. Each institute has a team ranging from 35-65 people. The Country Manager works closely with Maximo
Nivel’s Executive Team and with their Country Manager counterparts in the other countries.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS (Team includes Director and 4-7 others)


- Develop and manage international programs (Volunteer, Internship, Spanish, TEFL, etc.)
- Develop new project sites, internships, and accommodation options
- Sell and schedule Spanish language programs
- Sell add-on travel programs and tourism services
- Manage daily operations: Airport pick-up, orientation/welcome, travel details, site visits, etc.
- Lead all client service and problem-solving
- Coordinate volunteer donations and other aid

NATIONAL PROGRAMS (Team includes Director and 3-5 others)


- Effectively sell English language programs
- Manage the placement testing and matriculation process
- Develop corporate and other offsite accounts
- Manage monthly and annual class scheduling

ACADEMICS (Team includes Director and 10-30 others)


- Teacher recruiting and management
- Materials inventory
- Curriculum management

MAINTENANCE & SECURITY (Team includes 2-6 people)


- Purchasing
- Inventory reconciliations
- Building upkeep
- Security

ACCOUNTING (Team includes 2 Accountants with dotted-line responsibility to Country Manager)
- Manage in-store revenue and daily cash out
- Payables
- Daily, monthly, and ad hoc reporting (e.g. Flash Report)

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree, MBA preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish; Advanced Spanish language skills are required
- At least 5-8 years professional experience; with minimum 3 years in a leadership role
- Business minded and very strong at managing details; Clear understanding of running a full P&L
- Significant experience managing operations in hospitality, tourism, or study abroad, programs
- Experience managing and leading teams—especially in hospitality-type (24/7) environments
- Must be passionate about client service and delivering above-and-beyond client experiences
- Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM

SALARY & SCHEDULE


Peru: $3,000 - $6,000 per month + monthly bonus + annual bonus

Generally speaking, the Country Manager works Monday - Friday 7:00AM – 6:00PM with typically 1 hour for
lunch, and whenever business needs dictate that the Country Manager should be present. Whereas the Country
Manager is not scheduled for weekends, the nature of our programs may require weekend work—especially
Sundays during peak times of the year.
