Task 71-21-12-830-002

Description and Operation of the Forward Engine Mount

1. Description and Operation of the Forward Engine Mount

A. Description (See Figure 1.)

(1) This publication contains maintenance instructions and an

illustrated parts list for the V2500 A1 and A5 Forward Engine
Mount.

(2) The forward engine mount is made of a two-piece mount beam

assembly, a cross beam assembly, a monoball assembly and two
link assemblies.

(3) The mount beam assembly has two main beam halves which are
connected with bolts. The main beam halves are machined after
installation together and must not be disassembled.

(4) The crossbeam is attached with a pin at its center pivot point
at the aft end of the mount beam assembly.

(5) The monoball assembly is a two piece bearing that is installed

on the snout of the mount beam with a monoball stop and bolts.
When installed on the engine, the monoball assembly attaches
the forward engine mount to the rear of the engine fan case
with bolts.

(6) The link assemblies are attached with pins at each end of the
cross beam. When installed on the engine, the link assemblies
attach with pins to the brackets on the rear of the engine fan
case. The link assemblies for the V2500 A1 Forward Engine Mount
are made of Titanium and must not be used on the V2500 A5
forward engine mount. The link assemblies for the V2500 A5
forward engine mount are made of CRES and may also be used on
the V2500 A1 Forward Engine Mount (POST SBN71-0210).

The beam shear pins align the engine with the pylon during
installation of the engine. The beam shear pins and the mount
bolts take the shear loads of the engine installation during
operation.

(8) The forward engine mount is attached to the aircraft pylon with
five bolts and self-locking nuts. Other lock and safety
mechanisms are used at structural attach points.

B. Operation

(1) The forward engine mount is part of a two point fail-safe

system. It holds the engine on the aircraft and transmits
thrust loads from the engine to the aircraft pylon structure.

GENERAL REPAIR 0

Task 71-21-12-300-000

General Repair of the Forward Engine Mount Assembly

1. Repair

A. This section gives the repair procedures for the Forward Engine
Mount Assembly. Refer to Table 601 for a list of repairs by repair
number. Refer to Table 602 for a list of repairs by VRS number.

B. Before the repair is started, make a decision on the level of

repair that is necessary to make the damaged component
serviceable. Disassemble the damaged items only to the level
necessary to do the repair without the damage to adjacent
components.

C. Refer to the IPL for repair parts. If a part is affected by a

repair procedure, a VRS number is given in the IPL. For example:
VRS2299.

2. Minor Repair Information

A. Remove minor corrosion and surface damage on metal parts. Polish

the area with 240-grit aluminum oxide or silicone carbide coated
abrasive cloth.

B. Keep a 10 to 1 (length to depth) ratio. Do not increase the depth

of damage.

C. Make the repair area smooth. Use a 600-grit emery cloth or

equivalent.

D. Make sure the surface smoothness is 125 microinches (3,2 µm) RMS
minimum.

3. Repair Definitions

A. The three types of repairs are defined as Standard Practice, Minor

and Major.

(1) Standard Practice repairs are repairs that can be accomplished

by standard shop practice. For more information about Standard
Practice repairs, refer to the Standard Practices and Processes
Manual (SPPM).

(2) Minor repairs are those required to return the assembly to the
original design configuration. These repairs are accomplished
by Standard Practice repair, or by replacing worn or damaged
parts. This manual contains repairs of this type.

(3) Major repairs return the assembly to an airworthy condition.

These repairs are approved by the FAA/DGAC. For more
information about Major repairs, refer to the Aircraft

FORWARD ENGINE MOUNT - ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST

Task 71-21-12-830-003

Illustrated Parts List of the Forward Engine Mount

1. Illustrated Parts List

A. Introduction and Purpose

(1) This section has the illustration and breakdown of the parts
for the assembly which can be disassembled, repaired, or
replaced and reassembled.

(2) This section contains a parts list consisting of five columns:

FIG and ITEM, PART NUMBER, NOMENCLATURE, USAGE CODE, and UNITS
PER ASSY.

B. Explanation and Usage

(1) The FIGURE and ITEM column gives the figure number and the item
number for each detailed part. The figure number is given once
at the top of the column. Each part is called out by an item
number. Any part which is not illustrated will have an item
number preceded by a dash (-).

(2) The PART NUMBER column gives the Goodrich, vendor, and
government standard part numbers for each detail part. Always
use the part number exactly as listed when procuring parts.

(3) The NOMENCLATURE column gives the description and nomenclature

of the detail part.

(a) If a part is not manufactured by Goodrich, a vendor is

given. The name and address of each vendor is given at the
end of this section.

(c) If a part is affected by a repair procedure, a VRS number

is given. For example: VRS2299. Refer to the General Repair
section for a complete list of all applicable repair
numbers.

(4) The USAGE CODE column is used to show effectivity (additional

configurations) to the top assembly. Each configuration is
assigned a code letter, A through Z (except I and O). All
detail parts associated with a configuration are coded with the
same letter. A blank space in the effectivity column indicates
that the detail part is used on all configurations of the top
assembly.

(5) The UNITS PER ASSY column shows the total quantity of each part
required. The abbreviation AR indicates that the quantity
required will be determined during assembly procedures. The
abbreviation RF indicates that the item is listed for reference
purposes only.
