WHAT I NEED TO KNOW
Dear Learner! Today you will start your journey in studying how the human reproductive system
works to help people reproduce. Each task leads you to a meaningful discovery in learning the
structures of reproductive organs, the functions of the different parts, how they work, how to take care
of them, and why maintaining reproductive health is important.
At the end of this module, you will be able to identify the different parts of the male and female
reproductive system. You will also be able to describe the functions of the different parts of the human
reproductive system.
2
WHAT I KNOW
Answer the questions by writing the LETTER of the correct answer on the space provided before each
number.
3. The scrotum keeps the temperature of the testes than that of the rest of
the body.
A. slightly higher B. greatly lower
C. slightly lower D. greatly higher
4. The epididymis .
A. stores immature sperm cells B. produces sugar-rich fluid
C. produces immature cells D. allows urine to pass through
6. It is a narrow opening between the uterus and the vagina that expands to allow the baby to
pass through during normal delivery.

WHAT’S IN
In your previous grade level, you’ve learned the other organ system pf the body including muscular
system which is responsible for movement. You’ve learned that the major organ of the muscular
system includes skeletal, smooth and smooth and cardiac muscles.
Now it’s time to learn other organ system such as Reproductive System. In the following
activities, you will discover the different organs in the reproductive system.
What’s New
Activity: What do I know about the male and female reproductive organs? What
to do:
Seminal vesicle
Vas deferens
Prostate gland
penis
epididymis urethra
testes scrotum
Fallopian tube
Uterus
Ovary
Cervix
Endometrium
Vagina
Parts of the Male Reproductive System Parts of the Female Reproductive System

How do you compare the male from the female reproductive organs?
WHAT IS IT
The main function of the human reproductive system is to ensure the continuity of the human race
by producing children of their own kind.
Specifically, the main function of the male reproductive system is to produce sperm cells and
hormones. A sperm cell is needed to fertilize an egg cell then later develop into a fetus, then the
birth of an infant.
The main organs of the male reproductive system are the testes or testicles. At puberty, the
testes produce millions of sperm cells and the male sex hormone called testosterone. Testosterone is
responsible for the development of the secondary sex characteristics such as body hair, muscle
development, and the deep voice of males. These traits usually appear during adolescence.
The testis is protected by the scrotum which keeps the testes slightly cooler than the body
temperature. Sperm cells die at normal body temperature so the sac maintains the low temperature to
keep the sperm cells viable. The sperm cells are initially stored for a certain number of days until they
mature inside the epididymis. The mature sperm cells leave the epididymis through the vas deferens.
The vas deferens also connects the testes to the seminal vesicle and urethra. The two vas deferens
join at the urethra, the passageway for the elimination of urine and sperm that leaves the male's body.
The seminal vesicle, prostate gland, and Cowper's gland are called accessory glands.
Seminal vesicles produce a sugar-rich fluid that provides energy for the motility of the sperm cells.
Cowper's gland is responsible for releasing fluid that flushes out foreign matters and neutralizes the
acidic urine in the urethra. The prostate gland produces fluid that nourishes and protects the sperm.
5
When an egg cell matures, it leaves the ovary and passes through the fallopian tubes, or oviducts,
to the uterus. The fallopian tube is the place where the egg cell is fertilized by the sperm cell. The
uterus, or womb, is a muscular organ where the fertilized egg is implanted, nourished, and
protected as it develops into a fetus until birth. The uterus has an inner lining which is soft and
smooth that thickens and sheds during menstruation called the endometrium. At the lower part of
the uterus is the cervix, which is a narrow opening between the uterus and the vagina. When giving
birth, it expands to allow the baby to pass through it. The vagina, also known as the birth canal, is
a hollow, muscular tube that leads to the opening called vulva. It serves as the passageway for sperm
cells, menstrual fluids, and the baby during natural birth.

WHAT I CAN DO
Activity: 1. On a clean sheet of paper/ long bond paper, draw and label the parts of the reproductive
system. (Note: If you are a boy, draw the male reproductive system. If you are a girl,
draw the female reproductive system.
1. Write the function of each part. See sample below.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
The reproductive system is an important body system. It is responsible for ensuring the survival of species by
enabling them to produce new organisms that are like them. What happens when the reproductive system does not
function properly?
Maintaining your personal hygiene is one strategy that will help ensure the proper functioning of the
reproductive system.
Activity 1.
Procedure: In the table is a list of health practices for the reproductive system. Put a check () in the column that
corresponds to your answer.
